M-CPL Conundrum

There are far more Frozen ATPL’ers than jobs: no pilot shortage at the bottom of the heap then. If there’s no shortage of inexperienced pilots why is there a need for the M-CPL and cadet schemes?
  • Is the present ATPL syllabus outdated or inappropriate?
  • Are the people passing out of the self funded ATPL system the ‘wrong stuff’?
  • Where are the cost savings to the airlines funding the M-CPL/Cadet schemes over the self funded ATPL’ers?

I must admit, that I have been reading about this issue with great interest in Flight Internation.

Why have I spent 10s of thousands of pounds to gain a frozen ATPL only to find that it is becoming outdated.

Why am i working my butt off instructing, only to find that I am getting side swiped by 21 year olds with no hours and no experience.

People are blaming those who are paying for a SSTR for undermining the Ts & Cs of pilots. It isn't its our dear old CAA, EASA and the airlines.

These plans have been drawn up by senior management pilots who have had their fun and are now being ruthless about forwarding their career and filling their pension pot. (Remember Gordon Brown will have it quicker than you can spend it).

Otters pocket, btw classic name.

I don't feel that the M-CPL will out date the classic f-ATPL. There's alot to be said for stick and rudder skills, especially people with a good grounding in flying that you have - instructing.

You've hit the nail on the head. But I believe the likes of Ryanair ad Easyjet have got ALOT of answer for in this area. Just like the likes of Ocean Finance have a lot to answer for with regards to people rising unmanagable debt...not that related but a good similarity.

Its +130,000 actually. Please don't diddle me out of 10,000 posts, my fingers worked hard for those posts!
I know that you are right about the stick and rudder ability, however who needs those when all you need is to be a crawly-bum-lick and be able to twizz knobs.
Unless of course you get the sums wrong and end up as a Gimli Glider.

P.S. don't blame Ocean Finance, blame Carol Voorderman, she is the evil one behind all of this credit crunch, Ryanair, lowering Ts and Cs, Communism and Evil Space Ferrets.
