Aussie Pilot Jobs after training

Hey,

I'm 20 and about to start my CPL training in a month or two. I hope that it will be completed in a year or so and I will leave with a CPL and MECIR. I have gathered by now that it is hard work finding work on the completion of training and that it tends to be a case of 'who you know not what you know'.

With this in mind I was hoping to get some insight into the best way to go about finding work when newly qualified, as well as any suggestions on how to make some contacts in the regional airlines etc.

My aim is to eventually apply for Qantas. In their minimum criteria section (i know they're only minimums) they seem to suggest two different avenues to get selected. One is to build up command time (minimum 500 hrs) and the other is less command time with a whole lot of first officer time on RPT turbine operations. Any suggestions as to which one of these is easier to pursue?

Thankyou in advance for your help,
John.
