Gecat type rating

Dear all

After 2.5 years looking for a job i consider to do a typerating with gecat.

Now i've started this thread to gather up-to-date info, of people who recently did also their type with this company.

Tell me everything like: "did you find a job rapidly after obtaining the rating", "Does gecat help you to find a job", "how was the level of the course","do they arrange your base training" etc

Tell me your story.

Thx

A320 Type Ratings

I have done A320 instucting on behalf of GECAT and still do a bit when I can. The course is generic and does the job but you will not be placed with an airline, a few lucky ones may get positions. bmi and Lingus have been taking a few on recently but thats more about timing than anything else.

I try to do the best I can for the trainees and I think the other guys do too.

You can do a JAA A320 rating and get line training for the same price with other providers.

One place I know has just managed to get the most recent trainees permanent jobs with a major player...again I think good timing, but the owners are very proactive in the industry.

GECAT is now GCAT. It has ceased it's links with GE. It's owned by a consortium now, and i know that there are changes going on. I don't know if the same scheme that i was on (GECAT Pilot Program) is now available

I was not under the impression that Gecat or Gcat did type ratings.
i knew that they could take you as far as your licence skill test but who do they use for the base check? No base check no type rating!!!
When Gecat/Gcat advertise that they do type ratings they mean that they can do a base check in the sim (ZFT)but please make sure that you and they qualify for this before spending your money!
Base(minimum of 6 take off and landings) checks in actual aircraft are a damn sight more expensive than in the simulator!
Do your research!!

A320 SSTR- a good move?

I too would like to hear how others have got on after going down this route through GECAT. Anyone not got a job, failed course, any other advice?

Cheers

When the guys on my course and myself got our jobs (Sep 2006) GECAT had placed all the pilots they had trained since they had started the SSTR pilot program. Some had to wait for a year for placement. I had to wait for 6 months, but we did all get placed
