CV Blitz!

Hi
I am planning on putting a pile of CV's into my car and driving round to all Airfields with operators based on them and going knocking on doors, within about 150 miles radius from my home in Bristol.
I will do this over about a three day period.
My question is this. Does anyone have experience of doing this themselves?
In which case what in your opinion would be the best time to go to the small operators offices? Beginning of the week or leave it until the last couple of days of the week when people are in a good mood as they have the weekend to look forward to!?
I realise that this is a bit of a shot in the dark because there is no set,'good time' to do this but i would be interested to hear others experiences of this type of networking.

Thankyou very much

Not at that stage myself (yet) but I have ever belief that your venture will be successful, even if it yeilds a peanut paying spam-can job identifying blizzards!

Let us know how it goes.

Yeah I second that - let us know how you get on. Wouldn't be my chosen method of job-hunting but I've heard it recommended enough. Strangely no one seems to post after having actually done it...

Some companies do not appreciate this approach. For most operators with HR depts based at/near airports there are also issues with security clearances. Make sure you ring them beforehand to arrange a visit and if given the OK then remember your ID/pass.

ramshorn,

Good on you for having a bit of initiative. Most small business have no concept of a "weekend". The office people may not be around on the weekend but quite possibly the chief pilot or some senior pilot will be around. There is no good or bad time per se, only convenient and inconvenient. If the office staff or senior crew say that the chief is busy, don't push it, be polite and thank them for their time. Quite often the secretary or office staff have much greater say in who gets hired/fired simply because the job's more than flying aeroplanes. If you're rude and abrupt to them, chances are you'll be rude to the customers. Look presentable, not scruffy. Casual is fine but not too casual. (first impressions etc)

Before setting out on the quest, establish why you're doing it. This will help you focus. Research the airfields and the operations on them before turning up. This will show that you're keen and also manages your time better.

A top tip. Sometimes an opportunity will present itself immediately. Brush up on your IR stuff (what's an approach ban, Cat 1 rvr minima etc), basic systems/aerody/engines knowledge and you could be in luck.

Have copies of your licence etc so they don't have to copy them.

This sort of practice is very common in Australia. However, we don't go 150 miles, we go about 3,000km

Ramshorn,
All airfields & operators within 150 miles of Bristol within 3 days?

This will take you as far south west as Bodmin, as far along the south coast as Goodwood, as far London(ish) as Biggin Hill, a circle distance from Biggin almost as far north as Manchester and probably about 66% of Wales also and all in 3 days!

You must have a bl00dy fast car and one that avoids traffic congestion, you might go to a site such as AA Route Planner and start planning your travels, it gives you point to point distances and approximate timings
