Under 16 working at BAA airport

Friend of mine who is just under 16 wants to get a part time job at a shop at a London BAA airport which is airside, but wants to know if a) he will get taken on and b) a security ID can and would be issued for him - permenant ID as he is under 16.

Hi, I used to work part time at manchester airport for ringwya handling. Mostly airside loading baggage onto aircraft etc. U gotta be 18 yrs, but once you get the job u'll be issued with an I.D pass for airside and terminal buildings. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Oh and try and have a clean criminal history before applying

Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe you have to be 16 to work in a shop in any case, according to employment law.

If you are going to be employed by BAA you must be 18. If you are working for a high street retailer based airside then normal UK employment laws exist. However you will still require a CRC check for your Airside ID.

Many thanks for all the replies.

I have found that he can work under 16 in shops, hotels etc. but laws are on the number of hours that you work.

Please can some one confirm whether BAA would issue a permenant security ID to under 16 year old working at airport airside?

'He' , subject to the CRC checks would be issued a retail pass, not a full airside ID, but enables retail staff who need to work airside, to get to their place of work. Or so me thinks.

261A - This is at least the second time you've asked about ID cards - what exactly is your obsession?
