Aer Arann Interview

Anyone got any advice on what to expect during an interview for Aer Arann? The info on here is from last year, just curious if anyone has any fresher experience?

Also do they do group tasks, or anything else, other than just an interview and sim check?

Finally what sort of questions are likely to appear during interview? Is it basic stuff or is there anything specific they ask? Will they ask much about the ATR etc? Anything worth reading over before hand?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks, Van.

Van, have you got an interview coming up with them? I spoke to someone recently in the company, who told me they would not be recruiting again until early 2006! Fair play and best of luck if you do. I hear they are a great airline to work for

The interview lasts about an hour. Normally held with the Head of training, chief pilot or sometimes the ATR fleet captain and the head of HR. You will be asked general stuff about yourself like in any interview and about your experience to date ie where you trained, did you enjoy it etc. You can expect to be asked somewhere in the region of 15-20 tech questions. These range from met questions to jar ops to simple questions like what is the difference between an NDB and a VOR. Nothing to catch you out, only they are looking for a general knowledge of what you learned during your training.

When I went for my interview I had done some research on the ATR. I think it does help to show you know some knowledge about the aircraft you want to fly. You don't need to know any detailed knowlege, but know simple things like for example what engines it has, what ice protection it has, know about the concept of 'Hotel Mode' (basically it's apu) etc.

Normally 24 are interviewed for about 6 jobs although I'm sure it may be more or less depending on their requirments. They sometimes recruit for their holding pool as well. If you get called back for a sim ride, it's done on a B737 200 series at the Aer Lingus sim building in Dublin. Expect a SID, some airwork, holding and ILS. You will normally do two of these as your first ILS results in a go around at minimums. You are evaluated both as PF and Pilot monitoring.

Hope this helps. Haven't heard any rumours of immediate recruitment at the moment but like i said before this can change overnight. I believe a number of people from the holding pool are doing their ratings at the moment. This will mean that the pool is empty again. Two more aircraft are arriving in the next couple of weeks and the company's plan is to double it's fleet over the next 2-3 years so i'm sure there will be plenty of job between now and then. Best of luck anyway if you get called.

ATR Operator, thankyou very much for your reply. Much appreciated.

No mention of group work or anything else apart from sim check and interview so is it safe to assume there is unlikely to be anything else?

There hasn't been any group exercise to date in the selection process. Of course this dosen't mean it won't be introduced in the future. Can't see how it would make any difference anyway. If they think you are suitable for the job, you will get it.
