Hi DB,
Unfortunately I believe that this is due mainly to the fact that native English speakers are generally lazy when it comes to learning a foreign language unlike our continental brothers.

Willby..

why bother learning another language - English is the universal language of aviation!
(Though you wouldn't think it in some FIR's - ever heard Yangon mangle it?)

"BUT IT ISNT!!!!!!!"

sure it is.....the captain of the Greek Airline Helios was GERMAN, flying in Cyprus.....

Turkish Charter airlines have foreign pilots....Belgians, French, We had British pilots work for TUrkish airlines and American ones when we first bought the RJ100s.....

IF you wanna come to Turkey and work here for an airline..., with the acception of THY, you can work for just about any right now....
Inter Airlines has 10 pilots from overseas..some Brazilian, some Dutch

Why bother with anything then, if that is the attitude to have?

I think we all know that English is the most spoken language in aviation, but it is not the only official language in aviation...

Best airline to work? Virgin Atlantic!

Agreed.

And, Duff Beer, you got any statistics to suggest that Brits can't get jobs elswhere yet foreigners are more likely to gt a job here than Brits?

Thought not.
