They have been saying there is a pilot shortage for the last 15 years! Don't know when it's gonna happen!

The market is a lot better at the moment wonder how long it will last before it nose dives again.

OATS are half right. There is a shortage of experienced pilots but it is just as difficult to break into the market as it ever was for a newly qualified graduate. Beware of the marketing hype that the large companies spout. They are businesses after all.

It is obviously in any school's interest to convince its potential customers that there is a ready market for their newly (and expensively) acquired qualification, and all of them indulge in this kind of schmooze at every opportunity!

What they don't say is what success they've had placing self-financed students with airlines in the countries they mention, or what the genuine prospects are for non-nationals in foreign pilot markets. They obviouly hope that such prospects are good, and hope that you believe that too, but without evidence, you are taking a lot on trust...

One statement concerns me:
China pays pilots $2,466 to $6,000 a month, against $8,000 in India and between $8,000 and $18,000 in the UK.
These numbers are not representative of what new pilots get paid in any of the areas mentioned. They may be a realistic aspiration in due course (say, over 5 to 20 years, to cover the ranges shown), but don't expect this to be what you might be offered - if you can get any offer at all!

The bottom line is - do your own research before committing any money. Do not base your plans on anyone's sales speil!

As for a pilot shortage in UK, well, it exists - in a way. Virgin, among others, is cancelling flights due to lack of pilots. Captains, to be precise. Partly this is down to poor rostering, and partly due to poor pre-planning by manning departments, but it is happening. However, we aren't looking for 200-hour fATPLs to fill these particular gaps! This has not - and will not - transmute into a shortage of pilots at your stage of experience, but it will open up a few more jobs. Unfortunately for you, there isn't a pyramid of people clambering up to that 747 Captain's job - each person moving up the greasy pole leaves only one space behind them! But every space is a result for one Wannabe, and it could be you!

what they don't say is that if you are an fatpl then (at the moment) you need be either and indian national or chinese national to get these jobs (see china airways - dragon air 300 but must have HK residency etc). If you have time on type then you are in a better position, rumor is that in india at least they will have to change regulations and at least allow type rated. But here is the thing they don't have the infrastructure to deal with the increase in flights. Ayway - so in reality for a low houred fatpl their statement are a load of Blx.
