Emerald Airways
Im have been offerd a position with Emerald Airways at Liverpool any guys got any information on them as in future plans, reliability and if its a good idea to go to then cheers

What aircraft have you been offered, and is it for freight or pax flying? know they were trying LPL-IOM with ATP's in pax config, but it seems they have handed the route and crews to EuroManx. I would guess if it's freight you're after, they are a good, solid operation. Pax, well may be a gamble. Depends where you're coming from, and what you're aspirations are.

Emerald have turned them selves round in the last few months.
I would imagine it will be for 748/shorts fleet, lots of business and plenty of flying going on at moment!
If it is for ATP likewise, lots of charter work happening for both a/c and is definatly not a gamble as 3rd pax a/c is being sourced and still have 2 a/c being configured for freighters.

Flying may be fun, but I don't think you'll be quite so chuffed with driving all over the country in a hire car in the middle of the night positioning from one airport to another. Lots of much much better jobs.

gone from being very profitable to nearly going bang so yes they have turned themselves around....just in the wrong direction !

I believe some Emerald staff members are out of pocket to the tune of hundreds of pounds for expenses incurred carrying out there duties.
some going back to feb/march this year.
This certainly is one strange company to work for!!!

Fat and fire come to mind!
For god's sake don't give them any money upfront, as for expenses claims, there are probably some owing from Feb/March last year!
You'll enjoy the flying, but be very careful......

If you look at germstone and say again slowly's history all they can do is slag company off!
You get paid duty pay, there for you should have no expenses to pay. If you paying for things out of your own money thats your fault, the duty pay system is there to stop you doing that!
Definition of thurning themselves around.
If you make a pprune search on emerald it will tell you what happened to company just before christmas.
Are emerald still hear? yes!

yeah i usually do slag emerald off for sure i will openly admit it.
basically im only slagging the company the people who work for the company are great.....the management are inept directionless and generally let what could be a great company lie in obscurity
im still waiting for them to turn themselves around start treating the workforce correctly and generally tidy up there shabby act
hopefully when or if they do I may have something to compliment them about......could be a long wait though :-(

Dillis, I wouldn't congratulate yourself too much. Anyone with a licence and the ability to pay for a type rating stands a good chance with Emerald.
They are desperate to save on costs, so posting FO's to their outlying bases (this could be Naples, Marseille, Bournemouth, Coventry, Dublin or Belfast) seems to be the flavour of the day. This saves them positioning costs, hotels and duty pay; many guys are promised a Liverpool base and end up somewhere else.
Take advise from someone who has been there too long, if you can get a job anywhere else then take it, and think very carefully before paying a large amount of money to put an obsolete aircraft on your licence.

Start on 18,000 plus £1.50 per hour duty pay which is paid form report time to going home time (ie during night stops etc)
Increase 3% per year.

MOB has kept the FOs pay rate at that for years his view of pilots is that they are a necessary evil....bit like the engineers too!
He hates it because the pilots and engineers have a very direct effect on his stranglehold of the company.
he relies on a fluid workforce pay them some of the lowest rates in the industry make them work sily hours and commute silly distances in hire cars up and down the uk and europe.
because after all were only after getting a few hundred hours under our belts then of after a jet job so why look after them??
same with the engineers just after getting licenced and the experience...no need to look after them either...because they will be off after a propper airline job too!!!!
anyway last one out turn off the lights...

People are still driving about in hire cars? Thought that had been put to bed a long time ago, especially BEFORE a duty. Naughty naughty.

Which christmas are you talking about? I think you need to go back another 12 months. That was when all the post office fun happened. They are even deeper in the mire now than they were then.
As has been said before, be careful, but if you do go there, you'll get good experience in both how to do stuff (workforce) and how not to do stuff (management).
