Asain Pilots
Hi
Im 20 years old and am about to start an ab-initio course soon. However after recent events is there a source of negativity against Asain Pilots!
I was born in London and have lived my whole life here. However my parents are Indian.
Is it harder for asain people to get into aviation. Are they given a hard time just for the colour of there skin. I mean in a job application with similar applicants will the white man be preffered?
I'm about to invest 60k+ for my dream, but I have to know if will I face struggles that I have no control over?

Why even think like that? I think wannabess like me and you should press hard to prove to people that asians are equally worthy of becoming successful pilots just like any other race of people.
Look around you, asians are excelling in many areas, not just in the NHS and accountancy! No reason why they can't become pilots as well.
Be proud of your culture and dont worry what others think about it, they should not hold you down because of it.

I do not know if this is flame bait or not, but I will take a stab at this.
I am of an Asian backround, and overall (Big picture), I have been treated no differently. As I shouldn't. In a perfect world, all pilots should be treated equally, race should have no relevance. Being that this world is NOT perfect, if you are treated differently, then the company in question does not deserve your skills.
And to add, if your parents are indeed of Indian citizenship, that opens up a huge booming aviation world for you that is not open to the rest of us. Not because of racism, but because of nationality issues. These issues I support. Any airline should give preference to their own country's citizens before recruiting abroad.

yeah, I do understand where you're coming from, being from Middle East (Iran) myself, at least you're from India, I come right from the belly of the "axis of evil" 
When I applied for the CTC (Wings Cadet), I thought they're gonna take one look at my place of birth and say NO thank you, next! But I got through to round 2.
I honestly don't think that it would matter what colour you are. As long as you are 'fit' in every aspect to carry off yourself as a pilot, appearanc-wise, your manner of speaking etc etc...

Was that post really necessary? Appalling spelling! Surely that statement is OTT. I have seen lots more mis-spellings from English speaking posters and some of them thankfully in good flying jobs.

Hi, I am also of indian origin and similar to yourself have been brought up in the UK.
Firstly, the fact that i am indian has been a huge advantage. People within the industry beleive we are a hard working and gracious minority. I have been in the industry for a year and have not met one person who has been disrespectful. Its a great job, dont even worry about your ethnic background, if anything its gonna help!

With the greatest respect, I don't think that the statement was OTT at all...
The point I was trying to make is that his CV is more likely to be chucked in the bin due to crap spelling and grammar, rather than the fact that he has an Asian sounding name.
There is no evidence of racial discrimination in flight crew selection, in fact as KKM states, it's possibly even beneficial to be a minority.
I for one would expect someone of Indian extraction to at least be able to spell "Asian" correctly - but then, maybe I'm in a minority?

hey i just wanted to say that it wouldnt matter at all about you being asian! if your a great pilot then thats all it counts! lol dont kno what im talking about realli seeing as im onl 15 but good luck to you! hope all things go well and if they do you will have to tell me all about it!

OK Here is my few rupees worth....
I am Indian born and bred in the UK, started my Aviation Career in Airline operations back in 1987.
During the course I gained my ATPL and now I am a Captain of a Jet Aircraft.
I have never been treated differently but was given alot of encouragement and support from people within the industry.
So keep at it get your licences and go for it!!!
At the end it will be your skill, knowledge and the person you are that will get you the job.

In my opinion, there are a few racists out there, as there are in any industry.
However, I feel, what you class as a problem will only become one if you make an issue of it yourself.
Just go for it, religion, race etc makes no difference to your skills as a pilot, which is what any company should be after.
