The Guide to Getting a Commercial Pilot Licence - by Clive Hughes
Available for about £20 from Transair etc - absolutely superb.
As for aptitude tests / mental agility etc do a quick search on amazon or similar - looooads of books on that.

Clive Hughes' book
I agree. Clive's book is excellent.
The only fault I could find was that some of the operator addresses were out of date by January 2005 (in September 2004's edition). Best to check latest names and addresses before writing to any for advice. I believe the IPA (Independent Pilots Association) has a database that's most up-to-date. ( http://www.ipapilot.com/ )
You might find a survey I did recently on all 122 operators in his book useful, should you decide to go ahead and you're past 35!
