Would you work for a 'cowboy' outfit ?

Here's a question for you all, and for the time being I'd prefer to keep the specific reasons for asking to myself.

As a newly qualified rookie how would you feel if you were offered a first job flying light aircraft for a company with a reputation as a bit of a coyboy outfit whose work, whilst not illegal, does nothing for the reputation of GA.

Would you take the job because, hey, a jobs a job, or would you let it go and hope something else turns up.

I know this is a bit vague, but your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Take it and immediately start looking for your next job.
You'll be building hours and its always easier to find a job when you're already in one!

I'd say take it! If they're operating safe, then why not? And yes, as soon as your in..start looking for another job. Good Luck!!

when i started flying, a good friend of mine told me: don't waste your time building hours. work on your contacts instead. by taking that job ( unless too unsafe) you'd be doing both. go for it and have fun

I joined a fairly ok(ish) outfit called Ryanair. I still fly for them but not by choice I now fly for the biggest cowboy outfit of the lot (management not pilots). Would I join now knowing then what I know now? No chance. Keep away wannabe's

Ah, you undoubtedly mean Skyviews. Was this in response to their recent ad in Flight by any chance?

Yes, a real bunch of cowboys. Subject to lots of complaints regarding breaches of Rule 5 on a regular basis countrywide, and many pilots just asking for trouble trying to fly at relatively low levels, at low speed, whilst trying to point a camera out thte window too.

The height of stupidity! They operate in a lot of areas with intense low level, fast jet activity and it is only a matter of time before they have a fatal accident.

You may be desperate to start building hours, but at what price? The loss of your licence, or the loss of your life? Either are realistic options with these bozos. And you get paid per roll of 'usable' film, not by the flying hour. Guess how often you'll be stifed out of money then.

If you want to get into that line of work, there are plenty of far more reputable outfits doing the same thing at less risk.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I must have missed the 'Skyviews' ad.... it has nothing to do with them, but you and African Drunk hit the mail on the head. The thing I would fear most is being pressured in to a situation that could land me in hot water with the CAA. I'd like to think that as aircraft commander I'd put my foot down and say 'no' if I were asked to do anything dodgy...... but having no commercial experience it is a worry.

Anyway, this outfit may well be perfectly respectable. I need to do some more digging.

Here we go again same ol same ol

Facts:

1 no prosecutions for low flying ever!

2 low speeds yes, cant you slow fly?

3 film by the rate yes -probably earn more than some ryanair new joiners

4 This type of flying is hands on.( will make you a better pilot than poncing around in the circuit all day-my opinion)

I have run the flying side of this show for the last year and a half, no one has been unfairly treated in this time.
There are always people ready to post here with little or no knowledge of the job.
Could name at least 20 captains/f0's for major uk airlines who started career with us and are still good friends with owners so that should stand testimony to the company.

At the end of the day we are all professional pilots we know the law, dont break it . Pressure to break minimums has been mentioned before NOT TRUE COMPANY NEVER HAS ASKED THIS.
