Do you happen to be Maltese, by any chance? The last time I flew Air Malta, I was reading in the inflight magazine that they were intending to exclusively employ pilots with Maltese nationality (although this could be rather hard with a population as small as that

Back in 95 I was involved in training a bunch of Maltese pilots... seems they had no means to get a ticket in Malta. No government agency was in a position to give checkrides. They all got US tickets and converted them in Malta. I assume this is still true.
