LOGANAIR "Lower end of the food chain"?

An article on the final page of FLIGHT this week features Loganair with what I think is a picture of an Otter departing from the beach at Barra.

Points of interest for junior birdmen:

1. 200+ hours pilots are taken on as FOs, and this will continue if expansion occurs.

2. Where possible, they promote from within since they are more likely to understand the company culture.

3. They have been losing experienced Saab drivers to likes of Easy.

4. Once your ab-initio training is complete, it is important to keep flying since if you have had a significant time without flying, you may be classifed as a training risk. [comes under the heading of a coded message]

In other words, why should they take that risk with you, if there is somebody else who is either fresh out of training, or is in current practice as say a flying instructor etc.

The bottom line is that the flying offered is a great experience for junior birdmen to cut their teeth on before 85% + of them move onto shiny jets

That would depend what you mean by "old".

BA retired [aged 55] are not uncommon.
