College Work Experience

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone can help but, hopefully, it wont hurt to try!

I am in my 3rd year of a 4 year Batchelor of Science degree in Computing Science. Next February I am to supposed to start a 6 month placement in industry. Eventhough I am doing this course its my ultimate desire/passion/will etc. to become a comercial pilot. Ive been flying for the past 4 years and have recently enough gone solo. I am MAD about flying and because of this I would love to be able to combine my work placement with this. I have applied to about 25 companies/airlines/agencies but so far ive only got about 5 replies - 4 being completely negative and 1 mainly-negative(contact them in the new year etc.). I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas how I might go about this? Im studying in Griffith College Dublin( http://www.gcd.ie ) and i'd be greatful for any suggestions - unfortunately, going abroad is not an option as i have commitments in the evenings...

Any suggestions are greatfully received - and sorry for the long-winded post!!

Thanks,
FFD

The more you limit yourself geographically, the more opportunities you are likely to miss. YOU will have to make the decisions as to your priorities.

Given the limitations, look for companies that service the aviation sector. Virtually all of them will have IT departments. If you are more the programming type, look for companies that provide sofware or computer-driven equipment to the industry. On your resume to those companies stress your recent and continuing aviation experience along with your education.

Hey Intruder - many thanks for the reply!

Yeah ive sent about 25 letters out(and im still sending!). There are quite a few Aerospace technology companies in Dublin and of course many airlines but as yet ive had no luck. Actually, this morning i received a letter from the Commision for Aviation Regulation - I wasnt expecting to be lucky and i wasnt, but im going to keep trying!

Anyway - thanks for your advice!
