Hello Rubberchicken
, aint it time you were thinking of coming somewhere with a shorter commute, jobs going at the big red and white shed up the road.
(to quote star wars)
we could use a pilot like you.

Hi clare, I was wondering when you would own up
Own up for what? I only just read this thread for the first time having been told that someone had mentioned me. I've missed everything that's been going on here, I'm afraid. So it's still Manston 0 AFT 0, not like I even know what the competition is.

No, I am not instructing yet, whoever you are. Oh, and by the way, it's 'Claire' with an 'i'.

Its who can pee up the wall the highest TB.

Due to short pitot tubes and low boost pressure in Manston you may still be in with a chance

how do!

hello every one, my name is John Skeffington and i've just subscribed to the site. Been reading some of the messages and they are all very helpful. As of yet i am n my final year of study at warwick uni looking for an opportunity for sponsorship next year. I have contacted FlyBe, got as case of the "cold shoulder". What do u suggest my course of action should be, persaverance????. Baring in mind i have very little flying experience, (hours in a piper warrior) what are the relative chances of me getting considered for sponsorship, if so is there an upper amount beyond which the airline will not invest?

Cheers all!

Hi John
I left uni in july with a good degree since then i wen to OFT and got my PPL I have applied for LOADS of engineering jobs and 2 pilot sponsorships schemes I have been through both sponsorships (and failed both ) and no engineering jobs.
I would suggest that when you graduate you should try agian with flybe and try CTC

Air Atlantique have recently (last 4 years), only taken cadets on with PPL's. Some have already passed their writtens or have already been studying for them.

Academically there has been quite a spread. Some straight from school with just GCSE's to thier name, some in mid to late twenties with degrees / military experience / aviation related work experience.

Looking at the above - I'd say the bulk of it depends on how you come across at interview. If they don't like what they see, forget it!

I think very few companies now give a toss whether you were in the 1st XV at Rugby or a milk monitor.......

Good luck all those who apply.

Though a subscription to young farmers weekly is always a good bonus for Atlantique

Hi All,

I have checked out Air Atlantique's website(s) but couldn't find any info on the fATPL sponsorship schemes - am very interested in applying.

Any info much appreciated.

Phone the contact number on their website and ask to speak to someone who deals in the area of sponsorship etc. However, be wary as i think they made a good job of wasting the time of the last lot of applicants who went down there for assessment, having or having not been successful on the day!

Bridge is spot on in all he says. Having spent many a happy hour sat three feet behind him in fear of things I could not see he is one of the best adverts for atlantic and one of the best pilots I am ever likely to have flown with. He quietly and calmly preserved my existance on at least one occasion. You find me a spotty 21 year BA type with the skills our 21 year olds have got! Best of luck at B Med Karl and next time bloodywell say goodbye before you piss off!

PS: -An ex atlantic pilot is an employed pilot!

Tonka Interesting comment....two of the spotty BA types that I joined with had won the RAF UAS aerobatics championship previously. We can all be guilty of thinking our school/university/flying is superior to everybody elses. I would have thought that your particular route to flying would have "ironed" such thoughts out?

Is it true Air Atlantique are looking for serveral guys to replace leaving air crew? Is moral so low within the company as these pilots are leaving?

Doesn't sound too good an airline to be working for if this is the case. Am I wrong?

A rather simplistic interpretation of the pilot employment market.

Surely with all your jet time on Nimrods you'd be aiming for a jet job with one of the majors?

I dont think moral is particularly high in any UK airline at the moment.

Maxy101

Dear Maxy, No upset intended and I could have listed any other airline with a sponsorship package, but I think the pure variety of the flying done from Cov, Manston or Inverness sets up the pilots well for the future, far more so than other airlines many of whom would not have looked twice at some of those at Atlantic. You see, not having a maths 'O' level doesn't preclude you from becoming a captain with Atlantic and yet having a UAS background, a degree and all the ticks in all the right boxes as well as success at the cooper trophy does not mean you are going to be a pilot with them either! For those that are lucky enough to succeed, they do become a very bankable commodity as far as other airlines are concerned. Speaking for myself I am now highly gifted in the coffee making department after five years of practice! -what a transferable skill that is!

PS: FLY ME ATLANTIC EVERYTIME!

Tonka If it is any consolation, those coffee making skills could earn you a fortune as cabin crew in B.A.

Can't really see how chugging around low level VFR in an ancient Islander is going to impress the boys at BA, BMI or Brit Telecom for that matter when it comes to getting a proper job!!!!

Err what?

I know off many ex atlantic fuglys and other types who are not only flying for BMI, DHL, Easyjet but are also training Captains and the like.

The flinging an islander round is only a small part in the fugly scheme. Then it could be C406, electra, J31, DC3. They have a very good reputation for turning out good pilots who may tend towards being flying farmers but they can fly and the can operate an aircraft in all conditions safely.

Quite right Maxy, I must dig out my imac and a quality razor! I'm just selling myself short, but oh the inhumanity of it all! I would most likely, just not be good enough! - Waverley, There is a chap with Britannia right now who swears all they talked about was night ship idents in the old girl during his interview -must be something 'bankable' in this VFR chugging lark!
