Angry Here we go again-Paying for training round 2

Been reading a lot lately about companies requiring pilot's to pay for their own training including if you are already experienced on type. This week in flight international, jobs posted ask for this as well as Air Atlanta ACE or whatever although it says "B747-200 type rating will be provided" Yeah, Uh-huh, sure it will! This seems like round 2 for 1990 era when most copmanies were asking for this. If you pay for your job you must be mad!

The terms at the recent Emirates offer for DE Captains says it all. I believe most of the recruits now will be low timers and that this program will backfire again on these airlines. Pacific Blue, Virgin Blue so they can fly to NZ and other destinations, nice way to take advantage of the Ansett blokes. Hope fully no one will apply for these positions. Rishworth and Brookfiled-shame on you!

Danger Just wait until they crash one !!!

The day is nearing when :

Air Atlanta piles one in with one of these pay for training crews at the controls while the Capt is taking a dump.

As long as you have the likes of Jerry O'sullivan involved and ACE, Air Crew Executive, this kind of crap will continue.

The only thing that will put an end to AAI will be a crash.

I pray that it doesn't happen,, but if they continue with this hiring practice it is bound to happen.

AAI,, get your doo doo together.

What exactly is the situation with that advert? Has anyone actually been given a definitive response from ACE as to what they mean by the term 'type rating will be provided'? Normally that would mean exactly what it says, and one would quite rightly expect to be bonded.

Are you seriously suggesting that prospective Captain's are going to be willing to pay for their own 747-200 ratings?

Sorry to interrupt the ranting and raving, I know I don't post much - I prefer to read, but can someone explain to me why someone who pays for their training is more likely to crash an aircraft than someone who is sponsored, as stated by B767Longhaul?

I agree Panman, but would be interested to see an analysis of pilot related incidents vs pilot experience, is a pilot with 5000 hours 5X safer then a pilot with 1000 hrs ?

Without wanting to put words in their mouths I think they are saying that Atlanta would rather take a crap pilot who can pay for the rating over the better pilot who perhaps couldn't/wouldn't.

The worst thing about buy-a-job is that it creates an artifcial demand for pilots.

I'm sorry, but I can find no way of inferring from the advert (quoted below) that anyone is being asked to pay for a B747-200 rating. As far as I can see, Air Atlanta are simply recognising the fact that there are fewer Classic-experienced guys around these days who haven't moved on to something more modern and are unlikely to move, so they have to train people themselves. You'll note that, as there are plenty of 757/767-rated pilots around, they require applicants for those aircraft to be rated.

I would say that this is a very positive sign! Shame the cut-off date has passed while you were all jumping to conclusions....

Captains Air Atlanta is seeking qualified applicants to join the Company's expanding fleet of B747-200, B757-200 and B767-200/300.
Minimum requirements:
B747-200 - Type Rating will be provided
7,000 hours total
3,000 hours turbojet
JAA ATPL(a) preferred
Valid First Class JAA Medical Certificate
If you have the experience required and are interested, please send your application before November 7th 2003



First Officers Air Atlanta is seeking qualified applicants to join the Company's expanding fleet of B747-200, B757-200 and B767-200/300. Minimum requirements:
B757/767 Type rating
1,000 hours total including 100 hours on multi-engine aircraft
JAR CPL/IR (preferred) with Theoretical ATPL
Valid First Class JAA Medical Certificate
If you have the experience required and are interested, please send your application before November 7th 2003.
