Is it worth joining BALPA ?
Hi all
I did a search on Balpa and didn't find this direct question though it may be under some other subject.
As a trainee, I am entitled to join for a low fee, however I am wondering how many people have joined and thought is it worth it ? and how many have joined and thought, Golly gosh isn't it lucky I was in Balpa becasue.......
I know it's easy to fill the forms in and join and be done with it, but my thoughts are for 1-1.5% or whatever it is once I get a job as a highly paid FO (not if ) I need to be repaying a training debt and that could be part of it.
Would love to hear the pro's and cons.
Thanks

I think that as a student, instructor and unemployed pilot you pay a yearly amount (£40?). When you start work it is 0.5% for the first year, 0.75% second, then the full 1% after that. If the company does not have Balpa recognition, I think it is limited to 0.5%.
Well worth it for me, as they are sorting out my redundancy and unfair dismissal problems at a tribunal.
