New BA 'sponsorship'!!
Just met a guy today who claims BA are funding him through his training.
Said he 'expressed an interest' on their web site and they rang him back the next day. A couple of phone interviews later and ONE interview with HR and now he's doing his PPL at HIS choice of schools (somewhere in North of England). No guarantee of a job or anything he admits but at least his flying is paid for. Has to go to LHR a couple of times a month to become a BA bod.
Any further info on this anyone????

Absolute total tosh.

There is no way British Airways would sponsor ANYONE for a PPL. They have offered internal sponsorships to become FI's in the past for current-serving pilots, but that is as close as they come.. and I emphasise the word past there.
When the BA sponsorship re-appears on the horizon it will be a vastly different animal to what we have seen before, something more in line with the CTC-type scheme than the full sponsorship many (myself included) benefited from before. Sad, in my opinion, but thats what my reasonably well informed crystal ball is telling me.
The gentleman who claims his PPL is being funded from Waterside is a fantasist. Simple as that.

It will be a fundamental shift if indeed as you say BA go towards a third party sponsorship model with the cadet sharing the financial risk. If BA abandons the full cadetship model then I can't see any other airline going down that route ever again either.
Looks like shares in CTC would be a wise investment.

Squiddy, I always suspected that you had crystal balls. Never guessed that they were well-informed as well, though!
As for your mate, SchoonerBoy, I think he's telling you porkies. Ask him some difficult questions, like who did he see at BA, who is his 'mentor', how do BA pay the school, and why does he appear to be the only BA sponsored wannabe in the UK?! Perhaps you could ask to see the letter from BA confirming his 'scholarship'?
As for the old BA Cadet Scheme, RIP

The thing is that I don't want any more companies to join CTC because they willl dominate the market. This isn't fair to us because if the company is alledegdley not up to scratch with what people are saying then we're shafted. We want at least some to choose from - not just one!
Note alledgedlely. (how the spelling is I dont give a kak) We want something or someone to do something to bloody recify the problem we have. This may take time- I know, but in the short term companies are saying nothing and inexperienced pilots like me are going elsewhere (jobs in London and the like).
Companies will reply with tales of woe such as political pressures and market pressures etc.... but- if people want to travel then really whats there really to stop them? - a bad marketing plan and hearsay?
anyway- enough and I hope things work out well for you......

Hey,
I am not trying to hijack this thread but a friend of mine has said a similar thing. He is still in school (L6) and so he hasn't done any interviews or anythin. He is prone to Bullshi!!in and this I would think is no diff. Xcept, a relative of his is quite high in BA (won't say which dept. he probably reads this-but he isn't flight crew) and they are gonna 'part' sponsor him, with no job prospects! Utter tosh to me, but......
Maybe we have the same friend

Please do not use txt speak on this forum. It annoys me with such an intensity that I fear a heart attack.
Many thanks.

I am certain that this is untrue
For those of you out there wondering if BA are indeed sponsoring school leavers I believe this to be completely untrue. I worked for BA for 8 years until about a year ago, I had to leave to pay for my own pilot training because there was no support available at that time even for staff already in the company.
I also know of several people who are still employed by BA with ATPL and who can't even get an interview for a flying job! There as far as I know currently no pilot recruitment at all and certainly no sponsorship. There is currently a recruitment ban owing to the large number of staff (mostly non flight-crew) who are still surplus.
I have only responded to this thread because I don't like people's hopes to be unecessarily raised although I no longer work there.

There's absolutely no hope in hell of getting in by 'knowing' the right people high up in the company, especially if they are not in the pilot community.
For example there was a son of a friend of Lord King's who famously (within BA) was turned down for the sponsorship. King tried to turn on the pressure, but the answer was no way - everyone is treated the same way.
Perhaps if the people who told porkies put the same energy into achieving their flying career, they would certainly not be sitting on the ground, but actively doing PPLs etc.
The only internal recruitment is that for ATPL holders within BA current staff.

I used to be in a the SAS (but I didn't really tell you that .........sssshhh!!!), but gave it up when BA offered me unlimited sponsorship and a free Concorde when they're finished with her.
