Evergreen's Latest Use For B-747s

Mom, can we go to the water park with the 747 on top? | KATU.com - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Weather - Portland, Oregon | Entertainment News

Cool.

:ok:

But they should contract out with the airlines for some ditching training.

Did he say they were gonna dump 300 gallons of water from a helicopter bucket on the little children?

:ooh:

Wow, DMS's senility must be kickin' into high gear.

Graybeard 18th April 2010 11:57

This complements their 747 Supertanker, which can drop 20,000 gallons on fire lines in one pass.

it compliments his screwing his work force for over a decade. no new contract and a TA that is concessionary for him.
DMS has a big balloon payment coming do this fall. lets see if he can keep his Disney land without the airlines
pulling in the dough!

Lately in Malta we had a couple of Evergreens tech stopping(due volcanic ash) no info if they will continue to stop here cos they had some problems with customs...in the meantime my question
Is the Supertanker used for freight as well??

GG747 14th May 2010 06:59

No it is not.

BBFive 14th May 2010 11:34

Wonder how Senior that flying line will go???????? :)

GG747 14th May 2010 16:13

The supertanker is a seperate operation from the airline. The crews are not on the same list, so I have no idea about the seniority system over on the supertanker.

Very strong roof ...I hope!

No it is not.

According to what I have been told by Evergreen crews, the tanker has a QC change out and IS used for freight when not being used as a tanker. I also have seen the tanker aircraft around the world parked on freight ramps, not sure why they would be there if not flying freight.

Even in Malta the tanker was parked last yr for 24hrs only crew rest!!

Zoner 16th May 2010 16:23

The first supertanker, N470EV, was convertible and could back & forth between freight hauling and dropping on fires. The Feds didn't like that concept so much so a second dedicated tanker, N479EV, was built and is the one seen nowadays.

BBFive: I'm senior enough but I've gone down enough slides in my career!:O

GG747 20th May 2010 05:39

FR8 your info is outdated.

The feds put a stop to the tanker being used for cargo a couple of years ago.

Cheers

Slow fly the big jet at little better than wingspan height while following a King Air's lead through smoke and gusty heat thermals so as to to drop heavy retardant? . . . Better anyone senior (and braver) than me to do that!
