Cool.

But they should contract out with the airlines for some ditching training.

Did he say they were gonna dump 300 gallons of water from a helicopter bucket on the little children?

This complements their 747 Supertanker, which can drop 20,000 gallons on fire lines in one pass.

The supertanker is a seperate operation from the airline. The crews are not on the same list, so I have no idea about the seniority system over on the supertanker.

No it is not.

According to what I have been told by Evergreen crews, the tanker has a QC change out and IS used for freight when not being used as a tanker. I also have seen the tanker aircraft around the world parked on freight ramps, not sure why they would be there if not flying freight.

The first supertanker, N470EV, was convertible and could back & forth between freight hauling and dropping on fires. The Feds didn't like that concept so much so a second dedicated tanker, N479EV, was built and is the one seen nowadays.

BBFive: I'm senior enough but I've gone down enough slides in my career!

FR8 your info is outdated.

The feds put a stop to the tanker being used for cargo a couple of years ago.

Cheers

Slow fly the big jet at little better than wingspan height while following a King Air's lead through smoke and gusty heat thermals so as to to drop heavy retardant? . . . Better anyone senior (and braver) than me to do that!
