hmmmm... I guess you can't read

No Bump, Flush or System Re-Bid
But go ahead and believe what you will. Tiring dialogue or not, you are incorrect. It doesn't matter one whit where the Polar FEs are based, they cannot bump an Atlas FE out of his base.

Per Holden's award, Polar's disputed FE's became unbased and unassigned full time employees with full benefits' from July 1, 2006, until December 2006 (retro), thence continuing on until July 1, 2007.
It is well past 1 July 2007. And neither does Holden's award vacate the no-bump no-flush in the Harris award.

Nitty - yes the Beckman award is on the street. It denies the Polar MEC's grievance challenging the company's right to have Polar crewmembers DH on Atlas Aircraft.

And to top off everyone's night, rumors are rampant of furloughs and downgrades at both carriers in Jan 09.

Thank you Barry O., Barney F., Nancy P, Chris D, and Harry R.

Tiger Guy

Beav,
Think about this. You don't want to fly -400 with a 250 hour F/E in the seat. How will you like pulling the gear on a -400 for a 250 lb. Polar Capt. who was left straned in PVG.:=
There is an old saying "Time wounds all heels".

Beaver_Driver 23rd November 2008 05:25

I heard about that one. And there was a simple solution which I understand he was too honorable to take. All he needed to do to get a ride was to reveal the name of the "scab announcer" or the person who had put someones name on the Polar scab list. This was maybe two weeks after the ill conceived Polar strike. He wouldn't reveal any names, and good for him. Among all of you, he is one who is actually man enough to, in person, stand up and take the heat. I heard he was also warned a week in advance and there were three other airplanes he could take to get home within a 12 hour period. So lets not feel to bad for him. It cost him maybe 10 hours of his life. Much less than it cost some of our Atlas guys who were on the scab announcer list.

And to answer your question, I would be proud to pull gear for Rick or have him pull gear for me.

???

Pat B. (Heil) how do you know so much more than anyone at Polar? Are you flying anywhere since Focus ?

Sleeping Freight Dog 23rd November 2008 20:01

Interesting, I got a job alert today that says Polar is looking for a new Chief Pilot. Any fuel to the fire?

rob rilly 23rd November 2008 22:08

New ?

That is very old news ! Ha !

Homeless FE's

I have to agree with L-38 regarding those FE's in the right seat. As far as low time, we were all there at one time or another. This is actually a pretty damm good environment for training( long cruise legs and a relatively forgiving acraft ). Sure, a CK Airman with such a low timer in the right seat would have his hands full in all phases of flight, but thats NOT what were talking here. --Cruise pilot-- L-38 was right in pointing out what the FE already knows regarding systems and Company operations, and lets face another fact, the FE is a dying occupation. There is nowhere for them to go. I believe, as a -200/-400 Capt. who was a prior FE upgrade myself, I have an obligation to my fellow crewmembers( Polar too ), to help integrate any newcomer, and help keep eachother employed.

That is because he is always kissing management , it will not surprise me he turns into the next Polar chief pilot :ugh:

dumbdumb 24th November 2008 06:38

Beaver, why would you say rumors are flowing about furloughs????? Haven't see that happen on the Polar side and given all the insecurity in the times right now to throw something like that out there, once again, discredits your postings. What a bunch of B.S. If it happens it happens but to spread rumors is crap and you know it.

Last I saw DHL giving back the two airplanes to Atlas and they are already signed into a deal. Don't take my word for it, listen to conference calls, read SEC filings, etc. ANA has been snooping around and possibly the customer. Down side of that they did say that "C" checks are being looked for grounding airplanes vs. the "D" check. And last but not least . . . we were supposed to go back to three bases (JFK, ANC, LAX). There has been no such letter for the bid so who knows.

Don't speculate and put peoples' lives in shock . . .keep it factual and life is better.

Amazing what people will say. No wonder we're just a bunch of pilots, F.E.'s and managemnet CEO wannabees.

CR2 24th November 2008 07:51

I understand ANA are getting two Atlas aircraft.

L-38 24th November 2008 08:44

"I have an obligation to my fellow crewmembers( Polar too ), to help integrate any newcomer, and help keep each other employed".

FirstStep's attitude reflects one of the many old fashioned qualities that had helped refine our profession to that of which became a highly desirable occupation many years ago. . . Today, anything less helps to deteriorate an increasingly crappy industry of which today's more junior types are destined to inherit.

layinlow 24th November 2008 12:14

Planes going, planes coming, furloughs, no furloughs, new base bids, no base bids, it never ends. The industry is in flux even with the high season upon everyone. Here's a why not wait until the company announces something. Saves on the ulcers. It's not like there is anyplace to go anyway.

Beaver_Driver 24th November 2008 14:20

Its amazing what you hear when management is out flying the line. And this is a "rumor" network lest you forgot.

And last but not least . . . we were supposed to go back to three bases (JFK, ANC, LAX). There has been no such letter for the bid so who knows.
The Polar D/O announced that in his "ops update"" dated Oct 31 on the crew corner of Globalnet. It starts 1 Jan 09. It is at the bottom of page two.

WhaleDriver 24th November 2008 14:24

I understand ANA are getting two Atlas aircraft.
CR2,
A Letter of Intent has been signed, not a done deal. Internal comm has talked about a name or two. Delicate time as negotiations go.

layinlow 24th November 2008 15:16

Since it looks like the company is shrinking like everyone else, well, almost everyone, what does that mean for the future of the -800? Questions, questions, question, and no answers. Sheesh!

Beaver_Driver 24th November 2008 15:54

What is a -800?

Best Angle 24th November 2008 16:39

What is a Beaver?

layinlow 24th November 2008 17:45

I was under the impression that AAWWH ordered some 747-800 freighters.

Beaver_Driver 24th November 2008 17:48

747-8Fs maybe?

Deltabravowhiskey 24th November 2008 19:05

Full steam ahead on the -8's (26 total), also discussions are on going to operate an additional 20 on top of that (Crew Leasing).

The -8 economics simply are too significant of an advantage, once the -8 arrives the -400 will become the new -200. The -8 has an overall 14% lower operating cost as compared to a -400 this easily justifies it's purchase and utilization on high capacity routes.

The only issue now is the 6 month delay due to the Boeing strike and delays associated with the engineering staff being tasked with the 787 program to get it flying.

One thing is for sure, fuel will not remain at the current low levels. Atlas by dedicating to the newer generation aircraft will be positioned with modern fuel efficient aircraft and remain insulated from petroleum mega-spikes or even sustained $100 oil.
