Something good about AAI
Hello out there.
I just forwarded my application as F/O to AAI and. Can any one give me some positive feedback about that company. What does a typically working month look like? Thanx |

But what about the flying itself? The colleagues? The 747. I allready know the money and the schedule is crap. There has to be someting good about them. I send in my CV and will hpoefully get en inteview in a sim ride this month.
Guys - cheer me up a bit. Is it difficult to fly. |

If these posted sentiments are correct, then try this . . . . At about 7pm tonight, go place a chair in your clothes closet (preferably without the clothes) and sit there with the closet door closed for at least nine hours (this simulates night flying westbound, have a bright light ready if eastbound). Run a few vacuum cleaners outside of your closet to simulate engine noise. Try to stay awake - you may also read with a nightlight if you wish. After about nine hours or so, go stand by your bed and wait for about fifty minutes (this simulates waiting for your destination hotel room that is being readied for an early am check in). Take a long nap, then go to a coffee shop and eat. Walk around your street for an hour or so, and then do all of this again. Repeat this scenario several times within a week, and continue it for a month or two (and remember the small paycheck). On the flip side, there should be some room for adventure (both adverse and fun), and what would be wrong with that? |

Somehow i still wanna go AAI so speaking for all guys which are invited ,can you give us some information about the recruitment Process. Dont understand me wrong ,i dont want to support missbehaviour in a company towards the pilots ,but i guess for me as a single guy its a good chance to move towards the goal ... So please let us know what we need to know ... the rest we will experience soon i guess ... Cheers |

Really,its down to the dot. AAI's new FOM chapter 7,edition nov06.is just about to crack...if CAA look's in to the content about def.of tvl and duty time...and reporting time... It's amazing how they could get this printed,and of course any newhires or some young "son" in ops will ofcourse send U tvl to AMS and then operate to K.L ref. to FOM chp7... Its so stupid written thats its very easy missunderstod,maybe that was the point from the start. |

I was actually looking for threads that could cheer me up a bit. I have an interrview this week and my current employer gave me the green ligt to go for launch with this project. If onyone would take the time to - in a few lines - describe an average working week at AAI. What is the 747 like to fly? |

Day 1 (of the month) breakfast at 9am, attended merely to hear the latest rumors, who has left, what contracts are about to end, which aircraft are AOG, ( again) which should be, Go back to room, initiate daily charge 19 usd internet to check company email receive a roster about 10AM, about 10: 45 receive the first amendment to this roster, completely changing it, and throughout the day receive amendments to the amended roster, each changing dramatically. Note on 6th roster you have a 2200 hr pickup. on what you thought was your day off. ( flight leaves at 0001) so this is OK apparently. 2200 show for pick up, find pick up delayed "until further notice" wait in lobby as room no longer available call "NCC" who have no clue who you are, or for that matter where. 3 hours later, room now found, news reaches you in the bar, where the balance of the on base crews can be found, still discussing the latest rumors, Day 2 Receive 8AM wake up call, (should have checked roster version 9 received at 0400) wait in lobby for an additional 50 minutes, (no transport) wait in bus at stand 45 minutes (no airplane) wait in airplane 2 hrs (no flt plans) wait in airplane another hour, (no freight) wait off stand 1 hour, new slot depart 1445, 4 hours delayed, on yet another Hong Kong - Tashkent - Luxembourg trip! 21 hours later, arrive Luxembourg. no transport, which is not really critical as there probably will not be a hotel room anyway. Arrive at hotel 2 hours later, to find that while there is indeed no room, you have a new roster. and a flight early AM back to Hong Kong, via Kuwait This can probably be considered day 3, hard to be specific now. roster 17 shows a day off in HKG, unfortunately roster 23 has you positioning on arrival to KL and you do arriving on what must be day 4? maybe 5 now, who can accurately say. day 6, whoops roster 26 showed you operating HKG? so position back and the time spent waiting in the lobby again for the non existent room, takes you into day 7, 2 rosters arrive while you wait.:ugh: but I have to say, I still enjoyed my time there overall, you will by and large fly with a great group of guys. |

Was I on your last HKG, KWI, LUX or was is KUL rotation??? Sounds like my normal day or days, hard to tell.
Some of it was fun. KUL for one Bangsar all night long. Some hard parties there last year when the Scandihooligands where around en masse, a pity I missed em. And HKG: Dusk2Dawn, Joe Bananas, Strawberrys, Ned Kellys last stance, TST, the "South African" Electronics shop. Oh and the Hajj from Jakarta. CJ's of Mulia, Bugils and all the company you could care for. Amsterdam, Leitseplein, Schnitzel in FRA. Cyclone , Irish pub, Rockbottoms and Sherlock Holmes in DXB. Mojitos in HAV. DRO holding his court in the little bar around Eurobuilding. I dont miss LGW Hilton nor the Lack of quality hotel there either, But in the Hilton if you made it down at the Jockey Bar for the happy hour at 6pm you had to be there on the hour as the snacks would be gone in 5 min. LUX: Cold, expensive and booooring. But give me PVG any time. What a place that is. Who bought golf clubs? I did! The Bund not too bad. Anyone ever got the Brazilian BBQ there? Take Nairobbery, Nah I rather take Johannesburg or EZE, what steaks, what wine and those Argentinian girls developing international relations. So nice that many of present and ex AAI have bough places there. BRU old town the Keller and the square or MST what a summer place. AD |

And you are still interested??? :ugh: Once again, if you are single with no ties back home AND just as important don't mind getting screwed on a regular basis then go ahead and give AAI a try. This is why of course Air Atlanta continues in business without improving things excpet for a few select individuals. Some guys still think they want to give it a try and voila! Air Atlanta continues on. Life at AAI sucks bad for the rest of the pilots, and why the smart ones end up leaving. Things will never improve there unless you guys stop taking jobs with them. The only good that came out of my time with AAI was flying experience in some of the real crapholes of the world, although is sure didn't seem fun in the least at the time. Experience that turned out to look good on a job application. If I could have looked in the crystle ball and seen myself where I'm at WITHOUT going to Air Atlanta I would have skipped the whole thing. Horrible horrible place to work. |
Now how about a bad day? Air Atlanta is not everybody's cup of coffee but if you look at it as more an adventure than a career you'll love it! :E |

Must say that sounds just like my old job, working as a consultant-engineer. Just without the flying. I s'pose bad places can be found in all lines of business, wouldn't you say?! Enjoyed reading your post though!:ok: ...and since I figure I need a little adventure, I decided to apply. Have heard exactly squat since though. I guess they're just not that desperate, huh!?:} Hawkeye red, Don't know how your knowledge of Scandi-lingo is, but if you now what tagdenmedro's nick means, I think you should take heed to that advise. ;) |
Now that's funny Bill. Air Atlanta is not everybody's cup of coffee but if you look at it as more an adventure than a career you'll love it! I find as time goes by I can only cope with being at work for a month or two at a time, then I need another month or two to recover. I really feel for the poor fellows/fellowettes that have to work nearly full-time to pay the bills. |
I want to fly cargo
so I'm new to pprune and reading a lot of horror stuff about AAI, yet guys are applying...and another one says to see it as an adventure rather than a career...I can dig that...I'm adventurous with multiple multi hours but no Jet-A time...sent my resume off to one of the email addresses I found here but haven't heard anything back yet...it sounds like people are leaving like trees over there...do they not have a shortage then or did I have the wrong email address after all...someone help me please, I don't know what I'm doing (applying for this company)...

the website has been like this since 2005. Direct employment with AAI is not possible except if you hold the right passport. All contractors are employed by various agencies (most 'famous' is Airborne) and these agencies will advertise according to AAI's request on different websites (350 etc.). I absolutely agree with AAIguy: Fish for a real job! Don't waste years. |

Can a European airline put a crew on duty for a long flight and then tell them to ferry an empty aircraft for several more hours, because there is no revenue on board, as happens sometimes in the US?
For example, Part 121 then a part 91 flight :((general aviation regs)? |

:DI,m there for a few years and to me as ex. lufthansa flyer it is prety OK , I was flying for quite a few airlines, here is not as bad as many of them, You will like it some times , and dislike some other times , which is normal in this besiness, if U realy need some detail let me know , it has changed a lot recently with new management.

Air Atlanta is GOOD company for most
I have friends in SAS, Cathay and other big carriers.
Its very hard to please most of us. I think Air Atlanta has its ups and downs like most other carriers. Just apply come and check it out. Everyone seems to be looking for pilots now anyway. Still I work with guys who have been here for years as contractors. Some are happy. Some are not so happy and some are very happy. They still hang around. There are also guys who left for greener grass and they have come back and are happy to be back. Then we have guys who have gone for better jobs and Air Atlanta was a jumping stone for a better career. Unfortunately when someone asks for advise on this site they just get the negative info with few exceptions. There has been recent changes for the better in the management. Its true people get shuffled around and some have had problems with the crew leasing agency. It realy is up to what you are looking for. We fly to many different locations from different bases. Like some of my collegues say its an adventure. Have a look and judge for yourself. |
Try the Airbus.
Contractors get 8 days off a month. Some live in Abu Dhabi. There is an A/C doing a contract out of Paris flying around Africa. The Abu routes are India, China, Milan and Franfurt. Plenty of changes usually due to tech reasons or late arrivals but it looks a lot better than what I've read here about the 747. Don't know how the money compares. Oh and they must be looking for crew, esp F/O's |
