Hi,
same here. Recently applied and looking for more detailed infos (or updated). Roster: They advertise in average 7 day rotations. How often does it happen that you do like back to back and be gone for 14 days? If this happens, how many off days do you get thereafter? As far as i understand you need to have at least 12 off days in a 28 day period? Salary: If you join as Sfo it says something like 7500 plus the extras. Whats the average take home pay? Some pages earlier its mentioned that with the extras your basic gross is roughly your net. Is that true, so as Sfo you go home with roughly 7500k net? How does your salary increase over the years? Outlook/Upgrade: I know, no one knows for sure. Just an estimate. Still something betweeen 10-15years? Im happy to give up my 4th stripe, its just about salary comparison over the years ;) Thanks everyone |
Rosters: average trip length about 7 days is accurate. Longer trips +/- 14 days maybe twice or three times per year, or more often when all OFF-days are requested together. OFF-days per month on a full time roster are one block of 7 + one block of 5. Additionally 42 vacation days annually. Bear in mind off day and vacation requests are allocated based on seniority.
Salary: SFO time unit 1 is roughly 7500 gross. Including supplements 8500 average would be realistic. Salary development over the years: time unit increase is roughly 200/month per year, plus the Luxembourg indexation system (inflation protection) +2,5% roughly every year and a half, plus salary increment negotiated in the CWA. Nett income heavily dependent on the tax agreement between Luxembourg and country of residence and other factors such as marital status. Outlook: Dont expect major expansion, so counting on 10-15 years to command would be realistic. |
I went for the initial selection process, and it was a bit of a joke after so much time invested preparing for it. From the 8 of us there, only one passed that day (and he was curiously shaking hands with somebody in the office a few times, wild assumption). The very initial tests that you take are quite for NASA astronauts I would say. I am pretty sure it is a very good company to work for, if you succeed on all the selection processes they do after the initial tests, but the cut they do is quite savage, and from what I have heard it's also similar on the other 3 stages if you pass the first one. I am not a math formula, not knowing the speed of a horse that is 11 years old with warmblood breed (yes, it was on the math test) doesn't mean at all if I can go around safely with an engine failure in IMC while maintaining a good CRM and coordination.
In anotehr hand, I also have to say that the recruitment team was very good and comprehensive when looking for timings and slots to adjust your assessment, and when at the Head Quarters, you could see that people were happy and nice, giving you the vibes of a place you could stay for life and settle down. It's a pitty, I had a few hopes but I found it quite unachievable. Their company, their rules! My loss, and theirs. All the best for the ones who are being called! |
Thanks for the feedback and sorry to hear it didn't go so well. Do you have any recommendations for a fellow non-astronaut how best to prepare for stage one?

yep. I would say practice only from atpl.tv, go to courses/mollymawk, from there for math and aeronautical knowledge. And for the skill test try maybe pilot assessment )it is not great but will help you)
