I am interested in trying to join Cargolux. It seems like a company where I could stay until retirement. Does anyone have tips to prepare for a future assessment? As I understand correctly, the first day is Mollymawk, then when successful sim, role-playing, and tech, hr. Can someone tell us what we should focus on, especially for a technical part? Are they asking questions about the current jet or some questions related to general knowledge - ATPL, etc? Is there an ATPL test? Hope you have a wonderful day, enjoy! |

It seems like we only get 2 practice runs on math science and English. Very limited. Are the actual tests in Cargolux exactly like those we practice at the mollymawk webpage or are they very different? Struggling a lot with the science one.

The Molly tests are very similar to those in the training run.
I think the knowledge tests are doable, no big worries. In my group most failed (and overall I guess the same) in spatial orientation. Good luck, guys! |
How feasible is commuting - say for example from the Czech Republic or Austria to Luxembourg with Cargolux/Luxair?

If your registered address is in Czechia, you can board CLX flights from VIE with no restrictions which I believe is once or twice a week. If not, there is MYID with Luxair from VIE and PRG.

Thank you for your reply :) Would you say it is feasible to be commuting, would the roster allow it or would you be mostly away from home if you decide to commute? My intention is to move east from Prague, so I would be 1.5-2.5 hours away from VIE, not that big of a deal to do it regularly as long as not every other day hah!

with what you describe I would think twice. I know people who are doing commutes like you have in mind, but they are very dependent on flight schedules and rostering. My personal opinion is that in the long term, long-distance commuting only works OK from places like London, PMI, maybe the Canaries, where there are plenty of direct connections. (For any other place, one should live within a day’s drive so if all goes wrong, you can still jump in your car and drive to LUX.) I’ve seen people begging load masters, mechanics, colleagues obviously, and even ATC to expedite procedures so they could make the flight home from LUX. It was worse of course when we had no MyID travel and every Luxair ticket had to be requested and booked the old-fashioned way. There’s less minimum transit time now to catch a flight home and tickets can be booked online at short notice. We have a bunch of ID-deals nowadays with all kinds of airlines however those most useful like LH or KL are still out of reach and will probably never come. Bear in mind too, that for the kind of commuting you have in mind you will most definitely need an apartment close to the airport as juggling the hotels will hardly work for you. Sorry for sounding a bit pessimistic, still I hope this helps. Cheers, Rudolph |
Stay away. I applied years ago, and was type rated on the classic, not the 400.
Got a response from them by post. It was my CV in an envelope. That was all. Not even an acknowledgement. I had the last laugh when they prodded 2 port engines at LUX. Poor flying skills. Period. Yet these people want you to know ATPL theory. Academia has preference over flying skills. Sums them up. |
