747 classic, Gaddafi didn't need tankers, he used CL44s, 28 tons at a time, M.55, cruising at 4400lbs fuel/hour.

Don't forget all those small countries that can not afford a new Airbus or Boeing Tanker. It is cost effective for them to lease tankers. Some of the larger military forces can expand their tanker capability by leasing..

Why do "smaller countries" need the reach that a tanker would give them unless they have colonialism thoughts? You would think they would be happy protecting their own little piece of the pie! classic p.s. Any of Delford's warbird fleet have inflight refueling capability? |
Most smaller countries are thinking defense. An example would be a Fighter CAP at the FIR which has to stay airborne for long periods of time. During the Gulf Wars a lot of the refueling going on was aircraft waiting on their targets to be designated.
The only museum aircraft we have with refueling capability are the SR-71 and the F-15. Maybe one of the MIGs but I'm not sure. I've already volunteered to fly them for testing purposes. :p |

The case you have mentioned is exactly the problem why there is no "outsourcing" exist in certain areas. How private-own equipment, registered in the state "A", crewed by civilian crews, citizens of the state "A", would be allowed to participate in real war between states "B" and "C" on behalf of state "B" for example? It is 100% useless to have eqipment available for training purposes while you know it wouldn't be available for the real job on the day "X". |
