Things can't be that good over in Liege.
Their one and only MD11F had a heavy landing in Dakar with a long AOG - Ended up with engine #2 being damaged.. followed by a ferry back to base for more mx ... Now I hear they've another engine related problem.. Who can tell me more???

Safety Oversight
 

Worrying thing is that this airline has no real safety oversight, and operates without such in European airspace.

The aircraft rarely if ever operate to Zimbabwe where the aircraft are registered. This begs the question how there can be any form of robust monitoring of saftey and operational standards by that state and its Civil Aviation when the aircraft and operational base are anywhere but Zimbabwe.

It's another accident waiting to happen.... IMHO:(

Who has a crash report of their accident in China?

They still got a few pages worth of publicity in Airliner World this month.

Question 1. Just how do you manage to damage the #2 engine on an MD11 with a heavy landing without doing serious damage to the supporting structure under the engine?:bored:
Question 2. Where did they manage to find an engine if they owe (as rumoured) P&W something in the region of 1.5 mil?:bored:
Also rumoured they managed to damage the wing tip during the heavy landing.
Are they now down to just the one MD11, Has the 10 been laid up?

Understand they tried to lease engine from P&W but unable to due to outstanding debt. Rumour is that they removed #2 engine, repaired it and re-installed. This was the reason for lengthy AOG in LGG.

DC10 is still operating as far as I know

Maybe nice to know that their MD-11 was intended to get an A-check at AMS two months ago but while she was on her way to AMS she diverted to LGG due to the fact that there was a chance she would be impounded due to outstanding debts......

I wonder where she got her needed maintenance afterwards......

Are the MD11 pilots primarily Americans from the former Gemini Air Cargo?

I am aware that they do have someone from G - Spot onboard, whether it stretches to more than that - I wouldn't know.
What a tall order making up such deficit with 2 aircraft, and keeping everybody happy - especially Amsterdam, but I'd expect them to do mx themselves at their base in Leige, or is this not the case??? So, where is their DC10-30F as that's has slipped off the radar? Are they seriously trucking around with one aircraft!!!

yes its amazing what a piece of advertising does to raise your profile, still it must be tough keeping going on just one MD-11, i expect they diverted from ams to lgg as the little man from SAFA was sitting there behind a container waiting to pounce, that MP payroll must be growing !!

Air Zimbabwe prepares for return to international flights Air Zimbabwe is battling to meet safety standards by its deadline of 30 October so that it can resume international services soon after. The carrier has already taken delivery of two Airbus aircraft in preparation for its flights. These will be used to replace aged Boeing aircraft. Air Zimbabwe, which is a state carrier, suspended operations in January due to pilot strikes, poor finances and the threat of aircraft repossession. The carrier must now meet safety standards to avoid a ban from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on operating international routes. It is currently flying only domestic services. The government has agreed to take on its debt of $100m.



With the National carrier struggling to meet the desired safety requirements to get back into the air, it's amazing that Avient can continue without any effective safety oversight:eek:

Where is this 'only one MD11' stuff coming from, the DC10-30F survivor is still operating as far as I understand?

Saw an Air Zimbabwe B767 in Singapore a couple of days ago, must be medical treatment or a shopping trip.

Avient have just published their 2011 accounts (3 months late) and their auditors state their doubts as to the truth of the numbers provided, and concern as to whether the business can continue, one can only imagine what the 2012 figures must be like. The end is inevitable - sad news for the brave crews who have stuck with it.

If the auditors believed anything that AS provided then I bet they are putting up stockings tonight and leaving out biscuits for Reindeer!:D

one was at manston the other week but lately a finair md11 has been flying in a couple of times could this be a sub charter ?

Seems the end has arrived for Avient, MD11 parked up and repossessed, DC10 grounded, no money to fix it, now it seems they have stopped taking bookings and the administrators are being called in. Hope the crews got paid, there were some good guys there.

Hate to 'spoil a good story' but I don't think your facts are correct. The DC-10 is flying today, bookings are up from what I hear and I've heard on the grapevine that a new MD-11 is on its way. I'm sure there are some here that will know more than I do and can probably confirm. :ok:

Lets just expand a little with even more 'rumours'
The muppets currently responsible for Avient have set up a nice little sleeper outfit in the UK under the names of AV Cargo Ltd and AV Cargo Airlines Ltd.These have been dormant for some time and have not actually traded but there has been some movement of the Directors both in and out of both Company's.
Given the current situation, calling in the administrators would seem logical having driven the present outfit out of existence but knowing you had a back up plan ready to run with. It just remains to be seen if Cb's information is part correct and another MD11 has been sourced and appears with the new name painted on the side. If this is true then you have got to ask what registration they will try this time and would they still be welcome at Liege? Mind you, after the fiasco when they absconded from Vatry overnight and left a bad taste in a lot of French mouths, they have the experience to try it again in Liege. Present and future Customers you have been warned!:=

What they did to Vatry airport, was only the tip of the iceberg. No I'm not bitter and twisted, I left several years ago and was happy and relieved to do so - life was safer elsewhere.

Avient Aviation (Z3, Harare International (HRE)) is set to continue operations despite its sales arm, Avient Ltd, going into administration following crippling losses. According to transport publication, Loadstar, the new sales wing, to be called AV Cargo Airlines (London Gatwick (LGW)), has been “approved by its administrators, Portland Business Recovery, to operate existing commitments on behalf of Avient Ltd.” AV Cargo Airlines has already obtained funding and has secured new aircraft. The first of a possible three MD-11(F) aircraft (former N278WA, MSN 48746) is set to enter active service shortly, with a second scheduled for delivery in May.
