Recent AeroLogic & CargoLux Newhires - Questions

For those of us who aspire to flying for one of these carriers, can someone describe the "average" qualifications and backgrounds of recent (perhaps last 1-2 years) newhires?

I know there is a difference between the stated minimums and the actual "competitive" profiles. Where have the newhires flown before? Locos? Smaller regional carriers? Military? I realise there are probably newhires who hit all of these buckets. Any examples of where recent newhires at AeroLogic and CargoLux have flown before?

Also, is certain aircraft type experience preferred over other types? Excluding all of the political stuff (i.e., you need to know somebody or get referred by current pilots), what is helpful in getting you noticed beyond having more than the stated minimums?

PMs also welcome.

Cheers

Hired at CLX. No idea if it helped, but in my early carreer I have flown Turboprop in Europe and developing countries varying between Africa and Central Asian warzones (military contractors).
Last 4,5 years 737NG for european lowcost/charter company.
When invited for selection 27yrs and 3500+ hrs.

I dont realy see how this would help you. If you want to work there send your application and see what happens.
As for Aerologic I can tell you that pilots with lots of jet hours as well as pilots with just a few hundred hours of turboprob have been invited and hired.
I dont know if they are very happy with the rookies flying long haul on a 777 with only little experiance before.

you don't know. you should. guess you also know this business quite a long time EAM.
The rookies are more cheap, they are more easy to handle, guess you know well what I mean, and because they take rookies, the rookies guess are more sucked up to their BOSSES.
deeply grateful to fly those big ships etc etc. After all they maybe more "handy".

Aerologic had a min. of 1000h total before, I heared voices that said they are not to happy with the 4-500h pilots and will go back to the min. of 1000h.

Of course those guys are cheap and happy to fly the big ship, but with 3 landings per month you dont learn flying and what will they do in 5-6 years when those guys have 4-5000h but fly like someone with 2000h.

1000-1500h turboprop is a very good training, I would rather take a prop pilot than an Airbus pilot with 2000h.

Iver, to get back to your question. Got hired recently. Course comprised of two guys with substantial wide body experience, two regional Turboprop captains with about 4-5k hrs, 4 copilots from several backgrounds in the 1-2k hrs range.
Seems that no one knew somebody in the company before (at least nobody admitted so  )

Am not at Aerologic, but have a few friends who have just started there. The last course had a mix of Long Haul experienced captains and FOs, ex TP FOs (ca 1000 hrs) and one ex DHL. A broad range of people apparently.

Appreciate all of the responses thusfar - and invite any additional comments. I am happy to hear that a broad variety of backgrounds are being considered at both operators. I am well aware of Cargolux's difficult/selective screening process but less familiar with AeroLogic and its process.

I recall from an early thread that AeroLogic initially seemed to favor people with specific backgrounds and experience (i.e., former LTU pilots because the CP was a former LTU A330 Captain). That may have been only at the beginning and not be the case now.

Two questions. Can anyone speak to the potential fleet growth at AeroLogic going forward? I realise AeroLogic is related to LH and that may constrain growth without LH pilot participation. Also, for AeroLogic and Cargolux newhires, what would an average month look like in terms of days away from home while on newhire reserve?

PMs also welcome. Cheers

I would love to fly for either Cargolux and Aerologic..have some military experience but not much and the same 300ish FATPL..However I am 34 with a lot of life experience and matured....would either of these companies consider someone like myself?

Dear Iver...

At the risk of sounding a tad sarcastic....
You might want to look a few threads down in this section to a thread called: "Cargolux details requested"

Wow, its has 780 replies/posts, 203,225 hits and is in its 5th year now. Thats what I would call TRUE ENLIGHTENMENT !!!!

There you will find every concievable piece of information on Cargolux, ranging from requirements, application process, selection process, interview process, lifestyle, moral, rosters, days off, days away, work conditions, social aspects....the list is now endless.
And all this by the old dogs, new dogs, bored dogs, angry dogs, happy dogs, retired dogs and sleeping dogs (dont wake those)....:ok:

So...in the time it took to write "Echo, Echo, Echo"...you could have read at least 2 or 3 lines of one of those 780 replies in the thread.

Its all there !!!!
