DHL B767-300Fs Delivery/Operational Dates?

Does anyone know the status of the first 2 DHL 767-300Fs that will be operated by DHL UK? I have heard that the delivery dates from Boeing were late and that they then had to go for the winglet mod before they start operating them sometime in Oct.

Latest rumor is that now the first is to operate LEZ to JFK beginning Sept. 13, 2009.

Top Gear....

Believe one G-DHLE has been ferried to GSO for pre delivery mods , winglets ,etc etc .

GSO = Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTIA) Greesnboro, NC.

May the farce be with you

Yep,
Picked up yesterday, gone for the winglets and should be in EMA on 9 sept.

yunvi? 19th Aug 2009 22:58

Does this mean they will hire F/Os soon? I hear there are guys already in a hold pool.

MrIkea 20th Aug 2009 12:51

At DHL they say first flight 13 Sept.

No hiring forseen, as the 767 is crewed with DHL UK & EAT pilots. And they will be firing EAT crews again in the near future...(So crewing for 767 must be complete)

Maybe some hiring at DHL UK for the 757, Leipzig based, and chances of getting a jumpseat are becoming slimmer...

DHL Flight 909, DC8-73F (Astar Air Cargo, formerly DHL Airways - US) will depart LEZ on Sunday afternoon September 13th on a direct flight to KCVG.

This will be the last DC-8-73F international flight that has supported DHL while they have been waiting for the B767-300F to complete its mods and begin service on the LEZ-JFK route.

And they will be firing EAT crews in the near future...

Dear Mr Ikea,

can you give some more details?

Who are "they"?

DHL 767 Operators

Are there any other DHL 767 operators in Europe or the United States? Has DHL purchased any other 767's for expansion purposes?

Black Knat 21st Aug 2009 07:38

DHL/EAT

Hi Utopic.
To answer your question you need to ask a simple question and that is 'what purpose is EAT to DHL?' If you look at it from that point of view then you should be able to have an idea where things are going.
The basic facts over the last year are:
1) BRU operations have been wound down due to move to LEJ
2) The AOC is now moving to LEJ, hence the aircraft registration and operations.

There were historical reasons why BRU and EAT were important to DHL. These either no longer apply or are about to be so. Put yourself in the shoes of DHL and ask how you would make the company operations cheaper and more efficient. It's reasonably logical where things are heading if you think along these lines.
Obviously these comments are only my opinion, but hope they are of help.
Best regards,
BK

Hi Po Boy,

767 is new to Europe and has been used by DHL only in the U.S. so far. But those were/are all -200 Conversions.

ABX in the States still uses quite a lot of 767-200. Many (all?) of them in yellow livery. But I think DHL (or better Deutsche Post) sold ABX last year. (at least the share they were allowed to have) All work for DHL ABX is now doing on the 767 is ACMI. (Like BRU-LOS-BRU on ABX's 767-200)

To my knowledge in the States only ASTAR is still in partial ownership of Deutsche Post/DHL (49%). But no 767 there.

In 2007 six 767-300ER Freighter were ordered by DHL. 3 of them are coming now. What will happen to the next bunch? I don't know. DHL's 767-300ERF Freighter is the first of that type to be registered in Europe.

No further 767 have been bought for conversion. (wouldn't make sense, because with the delay of the 787, market rate/value of 767 is still very high) Should DHL consider 767 for fleet replacement/growth, they definitely gonna wait until the 787 frees 767 in good numbers. But again, no plans have been revealed to buy ANY aircraft. And nobody knows yet what the successor of the 757/A300 in Europe will be. Could well be "younger" 757 that are to be converted. Just remember how long the 727 was flying for DHL. So the 757 might stay in the fleet another 20 odd years. However, when DHL bought those 757 from BA around millenium turn, talks were there already about running a 757/767 mixed fleet in/from Europe very soon. But, since then only the rumours have never stopped. The 767 that finally are coming now will only be used for longhaul. They don't suit in the European Network. Not much mixed fleet flying for the pilots either. Will be initially run as a separate fleet. (you fly 757 OR 767)

Po Boy 21st Aug 2009 22:03

IceBear2710,

Thank you so much for your detailed reply, I recall reading the announcement about DHL's purchase of those 767-300ERF, and was wondering about their delivery dates and who would be flying them or where they would end up (USA or Europe)?

Was thinking those aircraft would be operated by ABX or Astar, from the USA to Europe or from Europe to the USA by European crews (DHL UK or EAT).

Exploring employment opportunities, 747 pilot out of work and wouldn't mind getting into the 767.

Thanks again!

Po Boy

@ MrIKEA

Where did you get the information EAT will be firing more crews in the near future??

MrIkea 10th Sep 2009 13:25

We'll see with the AOC transfer... Nothing positive can come from that for the "Belgians"

As for now everything is quiet... maybe even a bit too quiet. At the moment freight is luckely picking up, and let us hope it stays like that. Which is, if you follow the worldwide economical situation not a 100% guaranteed thing. On the contrary.

Anyway I'm not convinced that this is the end of the crappy situation we all experience...

Best of luck!

MrIkea 10th Sep 2009 13:30

And by the way,

First flight will be 13 Sept BRU - LOS ,

So first a/c will do the LEJ-BRU-LOS-BRU-LEJ rotation...

Greetz!

Mr.White 10th Sep 2009 18:17

Hi there!

Does anyone has the chief 767 DHL pilot email??. You can PM.

Tks in advance

Mr.White:ok:

Day_Dreamer 10th Sep 2009 18:49

The first flight will be to JFK, unless things have changed since last night which is quite possible.
Second 767 G-DHLF in Greensboro, third on its way in October.
Base training in EMA was on the 8th and 9th.

No direct recruitment as DHL Air already has recruited 767 drivers with right to work in EU, but these will only fly the 757 until the next batch of 767's arrive.

Operations from Lej-Jfk-Lej, Ema-Jfk-Ema, and Ema-Cvg-Ema for the time being.

Anouncement about jobs etc supposed to be made on the 16th September, this will in all probability spell the end of EAT Brussels and the bringing forward of the date for the new EAT Germany.
Currently ALL new hires will be based in Leipzig, this is in all job categories.
Redundancies are within the A300 fleet which over the past few weeks has been rundown, alternativly there is some retraining on the B.757 but Lej based.

PM if you want further info.

MrIkea 11th Sep 2009 11:47

Jup, my mistake, it is still ABX Air who is doing BRU-LOS
Misread the roster :)

Anyway it is strange that they are operating BRU-LEJ aswell now!

Sigh, that openskies deal is the worst which has ever happend for cargo ops in europe!
(ex. fedex/ups etc...)

underread east 11th Sep 2009 13:09

Future 767s unlikely to be pax conversions either - floor level too high to take a double row.

Mr.White 11th Sep 2009 13:17
