Ups Gso
|
Looks like a take-off incident. Maybe steering problem. Black line from nose wheels.
If it was landing may be he was trying to imitate the BA 777. Where did this happen? Cheers. |
I'm guessing GSO = Greensboro/Piedmont Triad Intl, NC. I can't tell for sure from the picture though, but it looks like rwy 5.

Could be a low speed #4 engine failure. They can be a handfull if light and using a high thrust setting.
|
Here's what happened. Over 60 F/E flamed out #4 due to fuel panel mismanagement. New captain upgrade (never flown the DC-8 prior to upgrade to left seat) didn't check fuel panel right before takeoff. Captain tried to keep a/c on runway using rudder only, he did not use the tiller. Aircraft is undamaged.

Not sure how the FE's age factors into the equation but a glance at the fuel panel by the Captain is always a good idea before take off.:)
