Avgas old pal,

You may be right about the Guppy not being given a US registration in the future, but she certainly had one in the past.

When I flew the old girl she had N447T on the side.
Yes I know that the Conroy CL-44 O was registered N447T. Unless I have seriously misread the thread, ( pre senile amnesia etc) the mention of US N registration was regarding the 2nd Belfast presently at Southend. The Guppy has Philippine registration pending as RP-C8023.
Hope it helps clear up any confusion.

Avgas,

Sorry about that, I'll pay attention in future. Or, as that famous '44 F/E Dave Priest used to say:

" I'll sign this form promising to buck up!"

BSD.

In the interests of peace and harmony, sorry if I've caused any confusion, we'll call it a draw I think.

Rumour has it that a team from heavylift arrive on Monday to assess the Belfast and if its OK start work on said beast. However, this has been said before.

Heavy Cargo 12th Apr 2008 01:21

Understand the Reps are at the 2nd Belfast with 2 more bits and pieces that go round and round with props bolted to them . That will make 4 ?:D

Waldo.P 15th Apr 2008 09:33

There has been some activity around the Belfast the last few days.

Porrohman 15th Apr 2008 21:25

How much commonality is there between the RR Tyne engine and propellor on the Guppy and those on the Belfast? The both have the same power output but have a different model designation. Is it just the mounting arrangements that are different or are there other differences?

As far as I can recall, the auxiliaries on one are electrically driven and hydraulically driven on t'other though I am damned if I can remember which is which, they are not interchangeable. I am sure one of our more erudite Tyne artisans will clarify in much greater detail soon,:ok:I hope.
Hope it helps

Tyne 512 ( Belfast) electric start // water-meth injection ( removed when civilianised ).

tyne 515 ( cl-44 ) air-start

Chille Con Carnie 16th Apr 2008 20:20

I may be wrong but i think the belfast use to have 4x 60 gall watermeth tanks.
Mounted 2 between engines1/2 &2 between engines3/4 near the rear spar.Remember filling up the tanks early eighties in heavylift days?
Connection underside of wing not very user friendly.
CL44 airstart under flight deck floor hell of a rackect on off load of air on start up.

JW411 17th Apr 2008 21:13

From my Belfast Pilot's Notes:

Water-Methanol injection system

Tanks (four) ........Fibre-glass
Capacity..............62.5 gal. each (250 gal. total) Spec.D.Eng.RD 2491)

Reading the blurb reminds me that (in basic terms) the system allowed sea-level power to be maintained up to 10,000 ft amsl for 4 minutes.

Heavy Cargo 20th Apr 2008 00:34

Im told the gearbox is different and engine is different dash number

Red Four 25th Apr 2008 19:50

The belfast moved south of the runway for a wash and brush-up today, so plans still progressing I guess:ok:

Heavy Cargo 25th Apr 2008 22:32

Not like CL44 stolen logbooks still missing ?

Porrohman 25th Apr 2008 22:57

Is there a planned timetable for getting the Belfast back in the air or is it just a case of working through the servicing schedule, assessing the status and fixing whatever needs fixing?

I'm hoping that someone will be able to post some photos / video of the testing and return to flight.

Are there any plans to bring the Belfast to Prestwick again?

Heavy Cargo 26th Apr 2008 00:41

Maint rep said " Belfast will test fly Southend then USA for maintenance/repaint then back to join her sister ".:D

CL44 scrapped in 4 weeks !!!!!! They can use the stolen logbooks as dinner trays ?
They ( M.P. / G.L. ) should have fun explaining their actions causing the scrapping of CL44 at the CL44 association reunion in June :\:=:{.
She should have joined the Belfast twins ?

Varipitch 26th Apr 2008 08:38

Hi Heavy cargo.

I paid money to go to the Forty Four re union in October this year. Has the date been changed? Nothing new shown up on the website-and their News-sheet has no mention. Will ring their Treasurer and Post reply to you.

Ahem... Heavy Cargo, is this confirmed? :\

And perhaps "Anxious of 'ampshire" can fill in some details as well?

I think the fence at BOH would be a good place on Monday to have a last look before the metal mincer gets to work:sad:
