heard cargo company kalitta air will start april with 747-200
into EMA does anyone know if there is anytruth in this ? who
are they operating for ups, dhl is it weekly or daily flights?

Kalitta Air Announces Transatlantic Scheduled All-Cargo Service

DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 2003--Kalitta Air, LLC announced that it will begin regularly scheduled Boeing 747-200 freighter service between the United States and Europe on April 3. The flights will operate from New York's JFK International Airport (JFK) and Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) in the U.S. The European points served will be the East Midlands Airport (EMA) in the United Kingdom and Amsterdam (AMS) in the Netherlands. Initial service will be five weekly frequencies, three of which will depart from JFK and two from ORD.
This is the second step in the carrier's development of an international all-cargo network to service the growing needs of airfreight forwarders for safe, reliable and cost effective airport-to-airport scheduled freighter operations. Kalitta Air began scheduled 747-200 freighter operations between the U.S. and Hong Kong last summer and has quickly become a major carrier in that market.
Over the Atlantic, Kalitta Air has aligned itself with well established sales and marketing experts. "The problem facing a low-cost carrier in international air freight services is how to market and sell its capacity. The costs of developing an in-house cargo sales and marketing force are high and the pool of available talent is shallow," said Conrad Kalitta, the airline's CEO. "That is why small and start-up cargo carriers often must opt for offering most or all of their capacity to established airlines on an ACMI or wet lease basis. We have taken a different approach that we believe will allow our cost efficiencies to be passed through to airfreight forwarders and their customers."
The Wallace Air Cargo Group, Inc. in the U.S. and Inter Aviation Services b.v. in Europe will serve as Kalitta Air's sales, marketing and customer service arm. "The Wallace Air Cargo Group and Inter Aviation Services have proven airfreight credentials. These are experts in their field and give Kalitta Air sales capabilities in scheduled airport-to-airport freight services that few can match. What's more, The Wallace Group and IAS understand the importance of cost efficient operations." said Kalitta. Break even across the pond is 45cents per kg, plenty of companies doing it for 36cents or less. Hope they have got the EMA programme sorted as Gemini were/are flying in there for DHL, so plenty of capacity. Also UPS fly in/out every day with a 767. Margins will be tight!

Yes, there is much truth to the EMA deal!!!!
There's also alot of tall tales regarding the company. God I love it!!!
This man started his airline(this time around) in the worst aviation market the world has seen. He gambled big time to make it work, and it has! They are classics, but the planes are good for a classic!! very few DMI's. Crews are timing out, the training department is going full steam ahead. We have at least 8 planes going probably 18 hours a day. Oh, did I mention, they are all paid for!!
Anyway, things are looking up for Kalitta Air. Stop by the Ter Streep in OST and say hello to the folks!

Hey PB. Finished ground school today!!!Great to be back with Connie and I can see the change in the operation since the Old days. Looks great so far. For those who question Connie,He Always Pays His Crews first !!! Unlike the Kitty Hawk,s in the world. And yes.. He owns every aircraft in the fleet.
