DHL - Leipzig base?
Hi Chaps,
I'd like to find out a little more regarding DHL and their bases, or roster.
Some non DHL crew members I know tell me if you are fortunate enough to get a job there you must live in Leipzig, and than there are others who say the roster allows you to live anywhere in Europe. I'm hoping if possible for someone to clear this up for me. Must one reside in/nearby to Leipzig or can one live outside Leipzig and commute to work?

I don't work for DHL but you can commute on their jumpseat if you work there. Of course you need a place to stay at when you have a standby duty.
I work for another cargo operator and I don't live on base.

Always need some form of local accommodation for layovers/sby etc. If you choose to commute and not to make Leipzig your main residence then you won’t be offered a full time roster. Most likely 10/12 or 11/12 depending on where you actually live. Also be aware that regardless of your domicile there is a liability for German social security.
At the moment I’m not aware of any plans for recruitment.

Recruitment is closed at the moment anyway, so if you haven't applied yet then your application will probably not be accepted at the moment, DHK has about 2000 applications on hold.
About commuting, as DH said, you will be offered a part time contract if you decide not to live in Leipzig, after one year you then can get a full time contract as a commuter if you can prove that your commuting works fine in regards of fatigue and getting to Leipzig. Best solution usually is the 9and5 roster.

Thanks very much, all very useful responses. I didn't even realise there were two separate DHL contracts based in Leipzig.
I understand they aren't looking yet like. As some here have said, there are over 2000 CVs on their desk, but don't forget those same 2000 C.Vs are also on everyone else's desk at the moment not just DHL.

I would be surprised to see any recruitment before 3 years from now. But if they really do earlier (I am not catching the irony and English isn't my first language), so be it.
