First ISIS pissed off the russians, now Ansar Dine does it as well. Think they will regret that.

Volga-Dnepr six victims named

According to The New York Times, quoting Volga-Dnepr, six crew members were killed by the terrorists in Bamako:

Volga-Dnepr reported that the six dead were Stanislav Dumansky and Pavel Kudryavtsev, mechanics; Vladimir Kudryashov, a flight radio operator; Konstantin Preobrazhensky, a flight engineer; Sergei Yurasov, a load manager, and Aleksandr Kononenko, a navigator.
May they rest in peace.

As a non professional but having had links to aviation in one way or another for 60 years, I would first like to add my condolences to the families and colleagues of the Volga-Dnepr crew. These men are the aerial equivalents of the ocean going tramp steamer crews, delivering freight without political favour throughout the world, including some of the most dangerous destinations, difficult due to terrain, weather or conflict.

Without them and the Antonov Airlines crews, the world, and particularly NATO, would be without a true heavy lift capability. Their work goes unsung and unnoticed by the public, except perhaps by enthusiasts.

RIP and thanks for your work.

Excellent post, philbky.

As ever, in today's world, those who go about their business without fuss are destined to be forgotten by all but a few when things go wrong.

There are many on this forum who spend countless nights away in foreign hotels, in the belief that the worst that could happen was that the fire alarm might go off for no particular reason at 0300.

None of us would expect to be murdered in that same hotel by mindless thugs simply because we were unable to recite verses from the Koran. RIP.

Devil A small consolation

I know of one president of a world power who would roll over on his back and wave his legs in the air as a response to this outrage. I know of another who will adopt a more active policy. This is little consolation to the loved ones of the dead but it is better than nothing. At least that crew will not be alone when they arrive at the gates of hell.
RIP my friends

Just like the Asiana and UPS 747 crews who perished recently, among others. The general public does not care. We're just freight dogs mercs for hire. The value of the cargo is is far important than the value of our lives.

Just like that paper cutout I used to have stated: Cargo plane down, pilots dead, no human casualties!"
Rest in peace my friends, what a senseless loss, like all those perished
in all those useless attacks on civilians recently!

Very sad, I have worked and flown with at least three of them and my sincere condolences go out to the families, and to all at Volga Dnepr.
