Air Cargo: how to handle cars?
Hi guys,
my company potentially needs to transport cars of our customers from several locations (North America, Russia, China/Japan, UK, Arabia, ...) around the world to Zurich/Bern/Basel/Geneva/Lyon/Grenoble/Annecy) inclusive return to the customers home after 1 to 3 weeks)
we have some experiences with business aviation, but none with air cargo.
how are the options to get the cars (Porsche, Hummer, Bentley, Rolls, ...) to their destinations by air cargo?
- which airline can provide such flights?
- how to find / contact such airlines?
- are there any good charter agencies/broker for such missions?
- are there scheduled flights (how often) or do we have to charter an extra freighter?
- lead time? normally we know about the requirement 3 to 6 months before
- costs?
some good tips would be great, thanks for help

Cargolux, Qatar cargo, and of course, cars can travel in the belly of scheduled passenger aircraft too, not just dedicated freighters. Depends where from/too really.

Snowfly. I doubt it, but all the big players in this market will have frequent schedules that would no doubt suit you. My advice (fwiw) would be to select a carrier and then contact them to see what they can do for you.
Look at the websites.
Obviously, I have a preference on this and think that a red and yellow company would do you a good job. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for your advice. We will define the detailed requirements of our customers in the next weeks and than we will solicit some quotations of a couple of cargo airlines.

Try Atlas/Polar
Both Atlas and Polar have world wide operations, both scheduled and charter. The company has been used by several F1 teams. They have also moved a number of high end English and Italian cars. Just do a simple google search for there web site. A 747 can carry lots of cars.

I am no expert in this but..
Unless these cars have unusual capabilities (i.e. armoured) surely it would be easier & less expensive to hire something similar for 2 or 3 weeks.
In fact I would hire something different just for the variety.
When I started to read this thread I was thinking , rally cars, vintage etc....

I doubt if you will find wide bodies going into Grenoble or Annecy. Bern is doubtful as well. Lyon for Grenoble and Geneva for Annecy. Either GVA/ZRH for Berne. All of the above involving some ground transport.
In the summertime we see many cars with Kuwati; UAE; Qatar; Saudi registrations on the roads around Geneva. They were not driven here.

Expensive Cars
Dont forget London as well. The streets of Knightsbridge are awash with 20 year olds driving their Bugatti Veron`s upsetting the locals & police as well. It is a yearly migration. There are numerous freight forwarders who specialise in this. There are plenty of airlines who will offer space. Wide bodied aircraft can assist on the low jheight side ( due a car needs to be raised up ). Some airlines will allow roll on / locke down. Others will not. Freighter service is best with less hands and manpower involved but 3 times the price.
The freight forwrader shown with the link are good. There are others. However it is best to give it to one or two freight forwarders as to give to one will most likely sink them. ZRH / BSL / GVA probably closet to where you want to get to. Good Luck !

Polar did charters ex LHR with the Sultan of Brunei as charterer. Waliking around the warehouse looking at a very expensive collection of everything you could think of.
