"Nah, I don't buy that load of BS...

There are lots of contractors that the DOD uses, like my employer (Atlas), and we are doing fine...thanks.

The problem with WOA is that they are now owned by an outfit that doesn't give a damn about the airline business, or any other business...all they care about is get in, get out, and on the way out drain the company from the millions it had in cash, pension funds, etc...Remember the movie, Wall Street?...same thing."
We have a winner. Buy that man a Bell`s

What does Atlas also having DOD contracts have to do with anything? The argument was that World and others became completely dependent on government contracts, while companies like Atlas continued to expand to other markets like flying 767 pax and cargo for charters and DHL.

WOA has been around close to 70 years, they have thrived when left the hell alone to quickly adapt to the ever changing ACMI market. They should have had reserves from DOD charters that would have kept them afloat, best guess is the parent company sucked the life out of them and labor issues previously mentioned. Moving to ATL (hometown of it's then new CEO HH) was a big mistake, Hollis Harris jumped into WOA when it was in bad shape and got lucky with the war. When WOA was in Herndon VA it seemed they had plenty of ex-military VP's, always assumed the coveted DOD contracts were secure. Anywhere anytime was a way of life when I worked for them. This crap would not be happening if Ed Daly was around.

I quite agree with you and surely if Ed Daly could see what WOA has become he would be raving mad with that bunch of stupid actual managers. I was in the 70's the WOA Stn Mgr in LFPB and enjoyed working with them. If I am not mistaken I am quite sure that Ed Daly owned Wells Fargo Bank for a few years. I remember the maintenance hangar in KOAK that could accomodate 4 B747's. Quite an outfit. Hope they can survive and get back on top.
