QATAR Customs what a farce!
Qatar customs network went down today, nothing moving in or out of Qatar.
I have just spent 6 hours waiting at Qatar cargo to send my dog back to the UK. Young spotty faced kid of a customs officer couldn't do anything apart from play games on his phone. No back up system, no paperwork back up system, only saved at the very last minute (50 mins before departure) by a customs boss rubber stamping her export permit!
The whole system depends upon a server. With all the cash Qatar has, you would think that they could invest in a descent IT system. Who else abandons the back up as soon as a new system is commissioned. This is a seriously screwed up country, all the money and not a clue how to use it apart from buying chunks fo London!

Not customs, but I know how you feel about the lack of a way to do things without electrons! I was leaving a hotel early, had told them that, but when I went to check out (transport had arrived and was waiting) I was told the I could not check out, as they were doing the system close out for the last day. At first, I asked politely if he did not have a receipt book and a card "swiper." No....you have to wait....
Well, the next offer was "I understand that you have a problem with your systems, but it is not my problem. I am leaving now whether you are able to take my payment and check me out or not. What is it going to be?"
Amazingly, he figured out a way!
