Hi everybody!
I would like to ask you some information about these two cargo operators.
Anyone knows anything about requirements to apply as first officer?
Furthermore: general/economic condition of the company, condition of the employees, roster, salary, if they use DLR for the assesment.

Hi,
considering both companies, I would by far prefer Star Air. It is probably one of the best jobs in Europe you could get at the moment. Fluctuation is almost zero, very solid mother behind (Maersk) and a long term contract with a big worldwide express service provider. They operate 11 B767 freighters out of CGN, excellent salary and roster.
Aerologic is operating a newer type (B777), but it is tough work with LEJ base. Salary by far lower than Star Air. First bunch of pilots already left again.

Recently saw a roster of Aerologic. Think hard before joining them, believe it or not, they do Leipzig-Bahrein-Hong Kong in one go with 3 crew. Plus you are subject to German tax, so the net pay is actually quite poor. Also they have standby duty, which requires you to be in Leipzig on off-days.

Errrrrrrm long may it last, enjoyed my time with MAERSK with the pax, then it did not fit the portfolo......................................... StarAir, good luck to the competition, AP Moller backing means ......... nothing just my take as a bitter ex-employee

@boredcounter....you are so right. AP Moller owns Star Air, but it is UPS who puts the freight on....right up until the point where they are allowed to fly the Star Air routes themselves.....or get a cheaper offer from another operator.
Ermmmm...excellent roster....well if you want to fly nights only 4 times a week on European routes on a 767, yes then it is the best option available.....
...but I agree it is better than Aerologic.....however Aerologic is partly owned by LH, which under any given circumstance must mean better jobsecurity than being a charter company on lease to UPS owned by AP Moller......

Ask anyone in LH Regional how secure they feel right now. Aerologic partly exists to put pressure on LH Cargo. Part of the grand master plan to keep everyone to s--t scared about losing their jobs to go on strike. As a tactic it works very well. Even MOL hasn't come up with that one yet. Perhaps Ryanair Express is on the way though!!!

concerning AL, some trips are quite tough, true (especially some of the west Rotations), but on the other hand the multi-leg flying shortens the average trip length quite a bit, giving you more free time at home. Think about it, a typical roster consists of three rotations with an average trip legth of 5 days (sometimes less), giving you half the month off with about 75 to 85 BH. Not that bad after all. Stby dutys have been a problem last year for all crews not living in the vicinity of LEJ, but now I have them very seldom on my duty plan.
Pay is an issue as well and needs improvement in the long run, but lets face it, flight operation commenced two years ago and what can you really expect pay wise from an effectively third-tier startup, even with LH and DHL in the background?? The performence of the company is quite good right now and if we keep it up, i'm sure pay will rise accordingly. Net pay right now is sub par if you compare it with established cargo operators world wide, again true, but compared to other german companys it's about average. Lets say it could be worse.
On the good side i work with a great bunch of people, stop at nice destinations world-wide with in general above average hotac and (now since a few month) have a very balanced roster with a lot of free time at home. Concerning myself, i'm happy where i am and this lifestyle suits me very well. Would i be happy with 1000€ net per month more? You bet! Would i go for 1000€ a month more to my old job flying a regional jet in europe? No friggin way!!

About Aerologic: to be german speaking is a mandatory requirement? what about the selection process, if I apply I should expect dlr or other?
About Star Air: what are the minimum requirements to apply(experience, hours..)?how could be the Star Air assesment?

Proficiency in german language is a hard requirement for all new hires and only if they are in dire need of experienced crews this will be waived (on a case by case basis). Experienced in that case means probably generally high time, lots of widebody hours and B777 rated with lots of hours on type but this is pure speculation from my side as i'm not involved in the recruitment process.
Concerning the selection process, expect the usual array of aptitude and psychometric tests, a simulator evaluation and an interview.
