TNT details
Hi,
I would like to know if anybody can give us some info about TNT.
As they are recruiting now it would be nice to know salary, roster patterns, life conditions,... And any info about the selection process would be nice too.
Thanks a lot.

Hi
Depends on what type of salary you do expect...
TNT is not paying much compared to other european airlines.
But
Roster stable, which allows a stable social life.
Some benefits such as medical/ extra-incomes at retirement age and so on.
The assesments are not easy and the questions do change with the examiners.
If you apply and your succesful, pay attention to your contract... Read it well as they are the only airline that has a type rating bond in Belgium, 3 years degressive. And it's forbidden in this rainy country...
For the rest, maintenance is ok, european hub well developped. Some nono's sometimes are induced by the ops department.
All chiefs pilots ok, and that's important.
What fleet do you apply for?

Stay clear...at least for now.
The salaries are low especially if type rated. The contracts have been deemed to be illegal by various lawyers, with the HR dept unwilling to change it (see notes on bonds also).
Standby's (short haul) are the norm and if you're after hours then this isn't the place.
The management unfortunately have lost the plot and the Union leaders are corrupt. TNT Airways is very unstable at present.
The engineers and ground staff have all been on strike in recent months and it looks like the flight crews are gearing up for the same thing.

I am B777 type rated, so I will try to get in that fleet.
It would be interesting if you could give us some numbers like
net salary aprox per month, working days, nights out,....
And tell us how is the life in Belgium. Any other comments?
Thanks a lot.

I don't work for TNT, but I may answer a few questions :
Liège does not look very attractive at the first glance (it can look gray and industrial, especially if you're from Spain), but it's a very nice lively city once you know it. It'll give you a lot of nice surprises, but you need to search for them. It's the 3rd biggest city of the country, so you'll find anything you need. The city is rather young and party oriented, while the suburbs offer green and posh neighbourghood (especially the east and the south, max 25min from the airport). Your net salary won't be high, but you have to take into account all side benefits and the high quality of life. Union is indeed a problem in Belgium, but TNT seems to do well there ...Brussels, Antwerp, Cologne are only 1h away. Paris, Frankfurt 2h with the highspeed train.

I told you, you have to concider the side benefits (health care, insuranse, pension plan, ...) and the quality of life.
You can rent a house the size of a castle for less than 1000 euro / month. In paris for that amount, you have a 27 square meters !!!! hole.
It's not about the number, it's all about the quality of life and we call it Belgium.
You can't give an amount to the pleasure you'll have eating very good food everyday, you can't number the friendlyness of the people there.
Would you live in Kazakhstan for more money ? You should play football

Well, yes and no.
The price of the accommodation is your biggest charge and for that matter Liège is a paradise. Brussels is already almost the double. But I can imagine it is very hard to make a full comparison ... the best would be to talk to someone actually working in Liège for TNT. I am not saying this is the best place on earth, far from that, but for many reasons, it's better than it looks.

Any information on the interview process would be greatly appreciated.

Any advise on how to prepare for all this?
Thanks and Best Regards,

Hi,
For what I know, TNT has not a type rating bond for non type rated external pilot. They propose a sort of retention bonus over 3 years.
In case of promotion, they use to propose a "learning contract" in wich we commit to refund the company for a part of the training cost if we decide to leave the company whitin 2 or 3 years; seems to be legal in belgium.
Psych Test are done by a dutch company.

Roster
Hi, anyone has an idea of the roster on B744? B777 roster might be similar. Is it mission style, ie two weeks flying around the world and then a Block off, or are you very often back in LGG.
Are pay scale levels based on your total hours or are some hours excluded, ie does a 10000hr capt starts in level 7?
Regards.

TNT Widebody
Obviously u're completely wrong. As a cpt B744 net with a local contract you get 6500 € Net a month. With an expat contract around 7500 €. To be éligible as expat, you need to be living out of belgium and not be belgian.
Duty day round 13, 14 days a month. Expect 2 or Max 3 trips a month.
Good athmosphere among pilot cty.
TNT longhaul is the best kept secret in aviation.

And it's growing at an impressive speed it seems:
From Johan Vanneste on Twitter:
If my data is correct, TNT is now largest airline in Belgium, operating largest aircraft: 47 in total, plus 3 x 777F and 1x757 on the way.
To be precise: 4x747-400ERF, 4x767, 2xA300, 4x757, 13x737 (more on the way), 20xBAe146, + before end of the year 3x777F (new), 1x757 combi.

is it a joke or for real ?
