Don't be surprised to see an awful lot of jobs going in that sector too. Tell all the people recently made unemployed that there isn't a credit crunch and recession going on and all made up in the media.
Parcels/freight etc only travel if people in jobs making the goods, and people in other jobs purchasing them, if one goes, so does the other

Come on I' Kid, You must know that freight, etc. doesn't live in a bubble on it's own unaffected by the rest of the economy.
Besides for routes to start from Coventry, have to have an airport that's still open!

i am amazed at how many doom and gloom merchants are thriving on this economic downturn.to listen to some of you,i am convinced you will talk yourselves into a recession.why keep predicting imminent disaster for businesses, which are doing quite well at the moment.

Jenny B - good point ref closures.
Any ideas if the restrictions will be lifted in the new year?
Also think there would have to be a fair bit of investment in the CVT infrastructure to handle that many flights.

De ja vu! !!
B~~~y hell JennyB, VERY impressive, any chance of sorting my figures out at the Towers?
Anyway....tonight at 20:04 the first trial flight took place out of Cov. This was to determine whether a better noise abatement SID could be implemented for the forthcoming new freight operation. I can report that it was deemed a complete success on account that Cov ATC recieved not one noise complaint from Bubbenhall!

Where is this rumour from? There is no information on any website, and surely they would need to invest in a handling agent before the operation commences, unless they think the parcels will walk off the aircraft themselves. Also what aircraft would they use and what apron? I think any airline would use an airport with better infrastructure, who are open 24 hours, and dont mess operators about by closing willynilly.

Yorkey,
While in general over the years your perception of what happens in night freight may have been right, this time it is different.20 years I went in European night freight without seeing job losses, but this time is different.I just hope if UPS are going to go into CVT it may actually change this trend and create jobs but I can safely say everybody is feeling the pinch this time around.
Parcels may not listen but alas the people that send them do.

Was the trial flight 'heavy' carrying a payload?
I once worked for an operator operating, supposedly, Stage 2 DC8's and one of our 'hotspots' was Gatwick.
With an MTOW DC8-62, even with hush kits, it was never going to stay within noise limits and all they did was throttle back over the published noise monitoring points but they occasionally got it wrong.
A LPL based turbo-prop operator went even better, for a fleet of some 14 noisy turbo-props they had circa 3 Stage 2 hush kits, they would get the aircraft, by registration, certified as Stage 2 and at the next big maintenance check the hush kit would come off that one and subsequently go on another one. They probably finished with much of the fleet cerified as Stage 2 on a mere 3 hushkits
I wouldn't regard one 'staged' flight a complete success if they are planning some 30 (loaded) per each night.

UPS Heavy!
On a lighter note, I know for a fact that the Captain performing the trial flights is well over 210kg! Must be classed as heavy?
FINGAL FLYER, Your right, big style, and we are (as well as most other people!) feeling more than the pinch...Just trying to add a little sense of humour. Miss ya
