Iraq: US transport plane crash

Report from BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A U.S. civilian cargo aircraft with between four and six people on board crashed shortly after take-off in western Iraq on Thursday, the U.S. military said, adding that there were no immediate details on casualties.
"It was a malfunction. It lost radio contact, then it crashed ... We have no information on the fate of the crew," a U.S. military spokeswoman said.
The plane had taken off from an air base near the western city of Falluja.
Last month, a U.S. soldier was killed when two Black Hawk helicopters collided while landing in northern Baghdad, a crash which also injured two American and two Iraqi soldiers.

It wasn't a US airplane. It was a contractor AN-12. Seven reported killed.

Did they charter the Antonov? From their website it looks like they only operate one Fokker 27 and five Beech 1900C's?

Sad news indeed.

Spent many hours flying around the ME with Jay
on the jumpseat.

May his soul rest in peace.
I hope his family won't be forgotten and looked after well.
