Part of the problem may be the new part 26 which covers aging aircraft. They have put a lot of new inspection requirements along with the other repair requirements for older aircraft. From where I stand it looks like the government is looking to make it very expensive for carriers to use older aircraft. Bt then again, the cost of fuel is doing that anyway.

Boeing and Airbus are both in the busines to sell new airframes, and can understand Boeing's reluctance to repair this aircraft. This will force the company to find a replacement aircraft! I hear more than the 2 announced 400's will be joining the fleet this year and early next year.
