CV is landing at BAK for traffic purposes or it is a cheap fuel stop instead of Middle East nowadays?

Hello C1,
you are correct with both assumptions, but you forgot a third one

It saves a lot of flying time taking the route LUX-BAK-Far East versus the old Middle-East India routing.
