SAS re-registers MD80's to Norway
Scandinavian SAS is re-registering twelve MD81, MD82 and MD87 from Swedish to Norwegian register. Does any body have a clue as to why ?
After the re-distribution of SAS 75-unit-strong MD80 fleet is registered in Norway 34, Denmark 21 and Sweden 20.
Does this have anything to do with Sweden being an EU-member and Norway not ?

All that we`ve been told, is that it has something to do with SAS just having sold these MD-80`s and leased them back. Why
that brings about a re-registration in Norway, I would also like to know. My message icon should tell you that I am as clueless as you. But I do not hope that it
means that this wonderful airplane is on it`s way out!!

Well, some of the ex-Swissair MD81's flying for SAS are on their way out. These are the oldest MD80's around in the world and they are scheduled for Midwest Express in the US who fly these planes in an all-business 2+2 cabin layout.

That is correct, we just call them DC9-80
to differentiate them from the MD-80`s
The A/C now on their way to Midwest, were
the only ones with an all analog cockpit.
The MD-80`s were all modified with classcockpits, and continue to be a joy to fly. The ex. Swissair A/C are leaving simply
to save some money on crew, or rather to
increase flexibility in scheduling of cockpit crew.
