Were they not bought by a private company with the idea of operating them on behalf of various western air forces? I seem to remember talk about them in early 2015, but seems to of gone quiet since.
Apart from the Orbital L1011 are there any others active?
Saudi?
Sands?
Barq?
Tristar Preservation?

Tristar Preservation? I believe this is still at Victorville being prepared for ferry to Kansas City. Whether it remains 'active' after that, I don't know.

Wannabe 777 - you are not wrong about being labour intensive I maintained Tristar and 747 together for more than 20 years. I needed about 30% more manpower on Tristars than 747. It was a weird mix of advanced and primitive technology. A lovely aeroplane to fly in,loved by its pilots but I found it a pain in the arse to keep flying.

News of the
L1011-100 c/n 1064 was registered on 31Dec2015 to Tristar History and Preservation Inc as N910TE.
This is the ex-Operation Blessings Flying Hospital P4-MED that has been parked at Tuscon AZ for some time.
Whether it is for spare parts or going to be ferried to Kansas City, only time will tell.

I've just had a look on Google Earth and it seems that 411a's beloved Tripe is still decaying gracefully on the ramp at La Ceiba. In many ways it would be nice to turn it into a shrine for all of us that remember the good old days where pilots actually flew aeroplanes, captains were captains, CRM had not been invented and a place where the young could remember such wonderful uncompromising red necks such as 411a.
It will never happen of course but he was a great old boy and wonderful at winding up the youngsters!

i was contacted possibly 4-5 years ago to move it out of there.
Seems some Arab back then owns this and is well known for not paying.
After so many years in that humidity would be expensive to fly it out.
Engine oil/filter changes all rigging, flight controls lubed etc, to include gear swings, list goes on.
Better to just cut it up, but if there was a way to do this would be nice to see this flying again. ,
Not cost effective, but wish it was.
