enandie, sorry slightly incorrect
Duty hrs less than 1000 in year, so much much less than a pax airline pilot.

Maybe you mean time away from base , there you win hands down

I've been here for a couple of years. First year averaged 19.5 days at home/month. Very annoyed this year as average has dropped to 18.5. Captains work harder, but then they're paid more. Things may change when LEJ on-line.

Must be a different DHL to the one I'm working for, cos most people are doing well to get 10 off a month at the moment

Chai Ja you can live more or less where you like, people live all over the UK and some abroad. The onus is on the individual to make sure they are available within two hours when on Standby.

Re-read what you've quoted - days at home not days off. You're right though, average is dropping quickly, 16.5 for last 3 months

It comes and goes.
Overall, the time off is the best in the business.
It´s nearly a partime job

What could a freshly training pilot expect for a salary in the first few years with DHL?

Er - have you actually MET any pilots from other airlines? From the outside world the time off is as deficient as the pay.

TenAndie, what you actually need to know is the time you can expect to spend away from home.

You'll do about 3,000 hours per year - that's about 65 hours a working week. Mr Angry from Purley is correct in that about 1,000 hours will be treated as duty hours, and you can expect to do between 300 and 350 flight hours per year.

I´ve been doing considerably more than that at the best of times, and lately, more again with no end in sight..

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the above information. A bit of a strange question, but if you had the choice again would you join DHL or go to a lo-co such as Jet2 or FR??
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi There. i have a interview the 6th of July. (yes posted one on the other forum). the only thing they could tell me is first year 28000 pounds. next no clue. and leipzig based. i asked them do i have to move what scheme do you fly etc etc. no clear answer except that i did not have to move there.

can anyone tell me what to expect on those interviews. (searched a lot on pprune but all is old or vague) and how does a normal working month look like at DHL uk with a leipzig base. do you fly to and from leipzig every night? week... where do you start end if not. bruto salary after one year. when are you an experienced F/o and or not.

any info is welcome. thnx for reading so far.

Some info

For someone with 600 hrs multi-crew non rated, what kind of bonding is involved?
At what stage could you expect to go from S/O pay to F/O pay (source is ppjn)?

Thanks.

Is there any help getting the bond money (bank they work with etc.)?
Is it a reducing bond?

you only need to pay the bond when you would leave before the 4 years are over, so no banks involved
and in the past it was always a reducing bond but not sure what the deal is now

Thanks, and some more info...

Starting pay is 28,000 and 2,000 increment a year.
So you expect to be on 36,000 as a 4 years experience f/o?
sounds a bit low to me, even in a low cost airline "sell your soul scheme" terms, not to mention charter alternatives.
Am I missing something?

Any other answer, please?
Just looks as if it is not enough money to pay the bills and save for a ticket home once a year...

Not sure what you guys are expecting but i would have thought someone with 600 hours would be jumping at £28k, allowances and the opportunity to fly the 757. I would expect to gain the FO status once your ATPL is unfrozen.
I know the job has a lot of drawbacks but salary certainly isn't one of them.
