Training in the USA

Im currently doing my JAA PPL but have decided above completion I want to study to do my ATPL. I have noticed through surfing the net, that possibly the most cost effective and fastest way to complete this would be to do my training in the USA. Ive heard mixed reviews on training in America but would like a some opinions off the real people who have dont it themselves or know somebody has. Im aware i need to study at a JAA school across there too. Some feedback would be great guys and if you can some recomendations if you have any. Also in your opinions is it best to have a degree or do you think its more down to experience more than anything???
Regards
