Facts about Emerald please
Just doing a little detective/research on Emerald Airways and would like to know a few things.
How long does the 748 have left before all are grounded? Are we looking at a few years or months.
How financially sound are Emerald?
I understand there are a few new routes and another ATP arriving soon.
Will the 748 crews in the long term be bonded on the ATP?
Basically are Emerald Airways fairly ok and any long term plans?
Cheers

You ask for facts about Emerald! You'll not get many here. Plenty of rumour, conjecture and libel (the libel nicely dealt with by the mods ) Don't get me started, several of my Emerald posts have been deleted in the past.
A quick 'Emerald' search of the forums will give you plenty of the
above but, as for facts....???????

p.s. You seem to have some facts yourself, what's your angle?

The daft thing, is that the 748's probably have more life left in them than the ATP's! It is certainly longer than a couple of months, probably to around 2010/2015. (This came from some of the Emerald engineers in BLK)
As for financial footing, I think they are back on track now, there were some pretty big wobbles, but it all seems to be fixed now.
Long term plans................. Go and find a piece of string!

Problem with the 748/360 etc is that although they are pretty damn good aeroplanes for the job, they are being forced out of the market place by the cost of modifications such as TAWS, TCAS etc etc, although i'm not sure if this is the dramatic reference to grounding of aircraft that you say in your post.
One would assume a company with Emeralds resources would already have the ball rolling on these issues and would be able to absorb the costs easier than some of the smaller companies.
I hear the future is looking better for them, although you know who will not have been happy he lost out on a few of the recent RM contracts, but on the plus side he did get a few Scottish ones.
No doubt will have to look a bit further afield for work now as there arent many RM tenders coming up, and the head honchos at FedEx in Brussels dont seem to be pushing much any work to them (or anyone else for that matter) due to their golden handcuffs deal with ACL which is understandable.

other than those at the top, we really have no idea about the company's financial state etc.
The 748s/360s still have a few years left and there is, I believe, plenty of work going around for that type of freight.
In the past emerald has been a very profitable company which may be why the banks have helped out with getting the ATPs and the shortage of cash thay caused.
It may not be the best or most glamorous job going, Mick knows that most of the younger pilots use emerald to gain experience and then move on so chooses not to pay a vast salary, however, I have always been paid on time.
If it is a first job, then it is a good start, the manual raw data flying at night in bad weather, though different from a modern glass cockpit, seems to prepare people well for moving on.
There are a few bad things, such as unstable rosters and long drives in hire cars, waiting for expenses etc. All the staff seem quite friendly to deal with.
