Question UPS close to announcing A-380 order?

Notice the last paragraph in the article;

“Sources suggests Airbus is now close to clinching an order worth about £1bn from United Parcel Service for its new superjumbo, the A380.”

Does anybody have any further information about a potential A-380 order by UPS?

Airbus may set up factory in US
Oct 19 2004

By David Jones, Daily Post

AIRBUS will consider setting up an assembly line in America if it wins a £13bn contract to build airborne refuelling tankers for the US air force.The European aircraft maker is to compete with Boeing for the massive contract and will seek an American partner if it is awarded the work.A successful outcome in what is certain to be a fiercely fought battle with its Chicago-headquartered rival could direct work to Airbus' wings factories on Deeside and help secure the jobs of thousands of workers there.Airbus chief executive Noel Forgeard has said that the company will consider an assembly line in the US to finish work on the USAF tankers. Major components such as wings and fuselage will be built in Europe and shipped over to America.He said the group had yet to start talks with a US company but analysts said defence contractor Lockheed Martin is favourite to partner Airbus for the contract.Rainer Hertrich, co-chief of EADS which owns 80% of Airbus, said: "If there is a competition, we will have a real chance."The door for Airbus to bid for the huge order was opened by US politicians earlier this month when they killed a plan to lease planes from Boeing.They said any contract for new refuelling aircraft should be competitively awarded rather than being reserved for Boeing, as once planned.Defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld put the Boeing deal on hold after disclosure of a conflict-of-interest violation by former Air Force acquisition official Darleen Druyun.Druyun, a civilian who became the Air Force's number two acquisition official in 1993, was sentenced to nine months in federal prison this month for conspiring to breach conflict-of-interest laws before becoming a £140,000-a-year vice president with Boeing.The USAF, which had asked for an investigation of Druyun's admission that she improperly steered billions of dollars of business to Boeing as far back as 2000, is now extending the probe to 1993 to identify contracts in which she had the final say.Boeing has said it is not aware of having received any special consideration from Druyun.Airbus overhauled Boeing for the first time last year in civilian jet deliveries.Sources suggests Airbus is now close to clinching an order worth about £1bn from United Parcel Service for its new superjumbo, the A380.
