You get sacked "for no particular reason"

...by fax?

christep 16th August 2002 03:29

On tax, the question is 15% more or less flat rate on all taxable items. I expect that housing allowances (up to a limit) are not taxable.

shortly 16th August 2002 07:44

The jury is still out on the taxation implications of housing allowance, guess we'll find out at the end of this year. Don't know about the SO COS so can't help with holidays.

Cx recruitment forecasts

Hi Guys,

When the ban at CC will be done, what will be the forecasts for pilots recruitment. I've been told that it was something like 250 expected for the next 5 years. Is it true?

Plastique 18th August 2002 19:09

Well do the sums...
3 A330's
3 B777
3 A340-600
9 (ahem) A300-600 Freighters ("we don't discuss rumours")
8 A380's (allegedly)
6 (more) whitetail B777's (according to Boeing)
4 (ex BA) -400's (subject to business case)

36 new aircraft.

I'd say the number is nearer 400.

411A 18th August 2002 19:23

Hmmm, must not be good news to the AOA members, with all those new guys arriving, and "not wanted" by the assiciation. The company doesn't seem concerned...and why should they?;)

Cpt. Underpants 18th August 2002 22:19

You just can't stay away from here, can you old fella?

Never fail to have a stir, do we? I would have thought that you'd be knee-deep in regulatory issues, FOM's, SOP's, IPC's and all the other paperwork that goes along with a startup. Yet you seem to always have time to surf, lurk and stir on the internet. Time is clearly not an issue with you is it?

Now having done a startup myself, I would guess that if you think it's all done, you have a bit of a shock coming.

Unless it doesn't exist. NAAAH.

Regarding the orders, Plastique, the only ones we should count are FIRM (9 airplanes) and I would go so far as to say that until you see them ON THE RAMP at CLK with "Cathay Pacific" painted on the side and a B-XXX registration, they're not here. 220 new hires is about right.

Not a pessimist, a realist.

411A 19th August 2002 01:24

Actually Cpt Under, have been away from FH for awhile while others stir, and I see they have been successful.
Have been in HKG recently having a look at HAECO. Not what it used to be, that's for sure. Come to think, neither is CX, but it seems some crew just simply cannot let go of the good 'ole days.

Minima 19th August 2002 06:10

Was informed recently by CX Management that 235 S/O are being hired.80 have already commenced trg.

kenoath 19th August 2002 12:41

21 days

Sly'n Smiley 20th August 2002 05:58

Do they look at anyone over 40??

Cpt. Underpants 20th August 2002 10:19

Yup, they do...

But the hosties won't!!

shortly 20th August 2002 12:41

Oh yes they will lol.

eaglejet 20th August 2002 15:27

i guess this number of 21 days increases as the carreer at CX progresses, no?

nudger 20th August 2002 16:09

What career?

6feetunder 20th August 2002 18:28

Exactly, the terms and conditions will be diminishing in the very near future. NR has housing in his sights, next will be annual leave. Seniority is already a thing of the past, just ask RF.

middle 21st August 2002 00:38

Nudger is correct. CX is no longer a career airline it is very much a contract airline. Nothing wrong with contract airlines just pointing it out.

The conditions at CX have gone south in a big way during the last 9 nine years and there is no reason to think that the executive office is sitting down trying to think up ways to improve things. So assume the contract is going to worse, a lot worse.

The last two major changes to our contracts were forced upon us. The atmosphere at CX is poison. The conditions are deteriorating worse than the HK Pollution.

gissmonkey 21st August 2002 01:36

HOWS YA CONTRACT COMPARED TO OTHER AIRLINES THOUGH?

6feetunder 21st August 2002 02:06

Compared to career airlines, which CX claims to be, sub-standard and getting rapidly worse.

Compared to contract work, it's probably among the top.

As long as you have your eyes wide open on the way in, there is no career at CX, just a 3 month contract.

gissmonkey 21st August 2002 03:42

Sub-standard? When I talk to mates in Cathay/Qantas/Emirates it seems that Cathays is the best deal?
